Volunteering comes in many shapes and sizes and here at Lakeside Village we know how important volunteers are – we’ve seen over the years the huge difference they make to the charities we’ve fundraised for. Without their volunteers they wouldn’t be able to run events, hold their raffles, host a stall and get out and about into the heart of the communities they serve. This Volunteers Week we want to say thank you to all of those volunteers for the difference they make. This year four members of the management team at Lakeside Village Outlet Shopping donated their time to help our local children’s hospice. We have worked with Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice over many years, and we know what a significant difference they make to families in our region. We’ve fundraised for them at the centre, and we decided that wanted to also give our time, as we know that this can be a precious commodity to a charity. So, armed with bundles of enthusiasm, we spent the day at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice helping to sort and organise the charity’s fundraising area. We had a really interesting day helping them to audit their fundraising stock and prepare items for raffles and tombolas. It was great to see the donations that people make and auditing the stock we were able to help them see what they had and what they needed to make the most of fundraising at events. Giving time can be just as valuable as giving money to some charities and we hope that the work we’ve done will help them with their fundraising efforts in the future. As a team we also volunteer our time to go out and about in the area around the centre to litter pick. We decided a few years ago that this was an important thing for us to do. We take pride in hour clean and well looked after the centre is and we wanted to make a difference to the areas around us. So, we put on our high vis waistcoats and grab our pickers and bin bags and we encourage others to join us in our efforts to tidy up the side streets and grassy areas around the centre. There is a real sense of satisfaction when we meet back after a litter pick and see all the bags we’ve collected. It might seem like a small act, but it does make a difference and that’s what volunteering is all about, making a difference.
