About us
KnowVate Hub is building a community of ethnic minority entrepreneurs to encourage collaboration and networking. Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, and the UK Minister of State for Science, Research and Innovation, Lord Vallance, have today marked the start of the construction of a £20 million Oligonucleotide Manufacturing Innovation Centre of Excellence in the Glasgow City Region. Supported by UK and Scottish Governments through funding from the Office for Life Sciences and ourselves, the centre will drive economic growth and collaboration, creating high-skilled jobs and helping to build an innovative medicines manufacturing hub in Scotland. First Minister, John Swinney, said: “This centre brings together life sciences and manufacturing – two of our most successful sectors. We know the life sciences sector is good for Scotland’s economy, but the medicines that will be made in Paisley will benefit people around the world by offering innovative and life-saving therapies with the potential to treat cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s disease." Adrian Gillespie, our Chief Executive said: “This is a terrific step in Scotland becoming a world-renowned Oligonucleotide hub where innovative, life-saving treatments will be developed for patients around the globe. “The market for this pioneering technology is predicted to double over the next five years which presents opportunities for many more companies to join a rapidly growing medicines manufacturing supply chain in Scotland." The state-of-the-art facility, due for completion in 2025, will be run by CPI and will sit alongside CPI’s Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre, further expanding its presence at the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS). As we reflect on 2024, it has been an extraordinary year for Knowvate Hub, filled with remarkable milestones and impactful achievements. The Celebrate in Colour Year-End Party, held at KONG Glasgow, was the perfect way to wrap up the year, bringing together our community to celebrate diversity, creativity, and collaboration. The event, a collaboration with Black Professionals United Kingdom (BPU), Black Scottish Adventurers (BSA), Jambo!Radio Scotland, and FotoPool, showcased the strength and synergy of working together. From the moment the evening began, the energy was undeniable. Guests enjoyed an atmosphere brimming with music, conversations, and excitement as we reflected on a year of incredible accomplishments. One of the standout moments of the night was the showcase of presentations, where entrepreneurs and organizations like Black Professionals United Kingdom, Black Scottish Adventurers, Knowvate Hub, FotoPool, Spyce, econome, and Jutacos shared their impactful work and inspiring stories. Representing Knowvate Hub was Emeka Ebeniro, Programme Coordinator, who highlighted how 2024 has been a remarkable year for the organization. Knowvate Hub earned the Judges’ Award for their contribution to Diversity and Inclusion at the Herald Genetics Diversity Awards and successfully executed two #bootcamps in Aberdeen and Glasgow. It was incredible to see some of the founders from the recently concluded bootcamp pitch and demo their products live. Having Amala Hub, one of our Aberdeen Bootcamp participants, cater for the night with great success was truly special. We are also deeply grateful for the continued support of Scottish Enterprise, which made our updated platform launch possible. As the night unfolded, the celebration extended beyond speeches and presentations. Guests enjoyed striking poses at FotoPool’s photo booth, capturing memories to treasure, and danced the night away to DJ Baron’s electrifying beats. The joy, laughter, and camaraderie of the evening were a testament to the thriving community we’ve built together. As we look ahead, we are excited about the opportunities to continue growing and making an impact. If you are looking to join our community or become a partner, we welcome you to be part of this journey.
