We bring together world-class research, education and clinical practice to benefit patients in London and beyond.

About us

King's Health Partners is an Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC) where world-class research, education, and clinical practice are brought together for the benefit of patients. One of eight AHSCs nationally, our partnership brings together three NHS Foundation Trusts (Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital, and South London and Maudsley), and an internationally rated top 25 university in health research and education, King’s College London. We work to ensure that lessons from research are used more swiftly, effectively, and systematically, to improve healthcare services for everyone in our diverse local population. We work on the most pressing health issues facing the world, including bringing together research and treatment of the mind and body, providing a comprehensive offering for local care from conception to end of life. Our populations have high levels of deprivation and inequality, and a higher-than-average prevalence of a range of conditions, including diabetes and psychosis. We have a broad research portfolio totalling more than £210 million in research grants per year, and the largest range of education and training opportunities (allied to medicine) in Europe. We have a range of world-class research centres, including a National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) funded Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). With combined funding of £130 million, we are third in the UK for Medical Research Council (MRC) awards and are a founding member of the Francis Crick Institute. We bring together more than 46,000 NHS staff with 31,000 students and academics, to translate cutting-edge research into excellent patient care through world-class education and training. We deliver high impact innovation - discovering new insights into disease, transforming diagnostics and unlocking new therapies and digital tools. Together we represent a £4.2 billion partnership, with more than 4.2 million patient contacts each year.

  • KHP Professor of Surgery, Prof Prokar Dasgupta OBE, starred in #CunkOnLife on BBC Two and it was a joy to watch 📺. • The aim of the 'Trust and Health Creation Partnership' initiative is to co-create a prevention and health-creation collaborative that will build trust, foster equity, and promote wellness within communities who experience the greatest health inequalities. Together with the South East London Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprise (SEL VCSE) Strategic Alliance; and SEL Integrated Care Board (ICB); we're looking to partner with five grassroots ‘By and For’ VCSE organisations. VCSE organisations based in south east London (Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark) are invited to apply. Each selected organisation will receive £50,000 annually for three years to develop, test, and implement community-led approaches to prevention with an initial focus on adults from Black, African, and Caribbean heritage; LGBTQ+ communities; people with learning disabilities; and children and young people. • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is currently one of the leading causes of death worldwide and is highly prevalent in the general population 🌍 This year respiratory consultants - Dr Amy Dewar, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Dr Laura-Jane Smith, King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust - highlighted the importance of measuring lung function through a joint programme called OPTIMISE COPD. Their aim is to help get more people tested and diagnosed for COPD, to enable better care and reduce the risk of flare-ups and hospital admissions. The carousel below reads: 1) Reducing COPD flare-ups in winter. 2) For every drop in temperature below 5'c there is a 10.5% increase in GP respiratory consultations and a 0.8% increase in respiratory admissions. 3) How can the partnership make a difference? 4) "By identifying those at-risk and putting in place processes of care that stop or reduce [Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease] flare-ups, we have the opportunity to decrease hospital admissions and provide better care for patients, particularly those who are more deprived." - Dr Amy Dewar, respiratory consultant, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS FT.
