Hospitals and Health Care

We are committed to joining up mental and physical healthcare, training and research to improve health outcomes.

About us

As the mind and body team, we collaborate with partners to find new ways of integrating physical and mental health care. We challenge health professionals whose work is defined by their speciality of interest - whether it be in mental or physical health care - to consider the impact that physical health conditions can have on a patient's mental health and recognise the impact mental health conditions can have on physical health. We also support health professionals to take on this challenge. Our data has shown us that the average life expectancy for someone with a long-term mental health illness or learning disability is 15- 20 years shorter than for someone without. We have also discovered that roughly 30% of people with long-term physical health conditions, such as diabetes, arthritis or heart problems, also have a mental health condition, such as depression or anxiety. The mind and body are inherently connected and people who experience health problems in one area can go on to develop problems in the other area. Our Mind & Body programme of work supports colleagues to deliver excellent holistic care through: · Education - We improve our shared understanding of the populations' mind and body needs. We upskill our workforce, equipping them with the skills they need to work across mind and body care. · Identification and diagnosis - We support universal assessment and meaningful sharing of data. · Evaluation - We provide clinical and economic evaluation for the initiatives we run so we can inform system development and incentives. · Service infrastructure - We develop and enhance service infrastructure to fully embed a mind and body approach. · Mind & Body Champions - We work with a growing network of passionate Mind & Body champions who advocate for the mind and body ethos. By joining up physical and mental healthcare, we can help
