Updates

  • Horsetail removal in the dark! Vegetation management doesn't stop for winter - our teams work all year round excavating invasive plants such as Horsetail, Bamboo, Buddleia and Rhododendron. Clearing unwanted growth and invasive shrubs, improves drainage to help prevent costly winter flood damage, and maximises the usability and value of your property. • Our drones were out capturing the team on an asbestos removal job. Hand picking pieces of asbestos containing materials (ACM) from site soils to remove the hazardous level of contamination. Just as with knotweed, when asbestos is found on site the project must come to a stop to call in the experts. More information on what to do if you suspect or find asbestos onsite here: https://lnkd.in/dD9vyseQ #construction #asbestosinsoils #landcontamination

  • Some before and after pictures of a recent Bamboo removal contract that literally shed some light on this garden. When Bamboo is allowed to form such dense canopies you may as well have built a wall, and the canes were 10cm thick in some places! A job well done to get it all removed from site and a great outcome for this property owner. 🍃🍃🍃This year Japanese Knotweed Ltd will be supporting the Somerset Wildlife Trust to tackle invasive plants in Somerset with a donation to their Christmas Challenge. Donations made between 3rd and 10th December will be matched by the charity. 🍃🍃🍃 We’ve chosen the Somerset Wildlife Trust because the work they’re doing to promote controlling invasive plants and protecting our native plants is vital as we battle loss of biodiversity. Somerset Wildlife Trust is aiming to raise £20,000 to combat the rise of non-native invasive plant species. The charity is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge, the UK’s largest match-funding initiative. Rachael Fickweiler, Head of Nature Reserves and Land Management at Somerset Wildlife Trust, said: “Over 2,000 non-native plant and animal species have been introduced to the UK over the years, and while many of these have integrated with our habitats without damaging them, certain species thrive in our climate and can start to dominate our natural spaces. Due to how quickly these invasive species spread, they threaten the survival of native plants and animals, damage our natural ecosystems, and are estimated to cost the economy nearly £2 billion a year. It is vital that we control the spread of non-native invasive plants on our reserves in order to give precious and often vulnerable native species the space they need to survive.” The trust dedicates significant time and money each year to managing the spread of invasive species. This includes common plants like Himalayan balsam, which spreads quickly along rivers and is difficult to remove; and Japanese knotweed, which re-emerges even after being removed and requires specialist contractors and tools to eradicate. • Working at the side of the M25 – around 8m from the live carriageway has its challenges. H&S at its best! We were contracted by the ecology consultant to fully excavate and remove Japanese knotweed which fell inside the proposed Balfour Beatty construction area. Knotweed rhizomes were found to be growing towards the motorway beneath the surface water drainage channel alongside the blacktop motorway. This channel is due to be removed and so it is likely that we will be requested to return to site once instructed as Phase 2, to remove the remaining knotweed here. #construction #knotweedexcavation

  • A challenging knotweed excavation contract due to general waste contaminating the soils which meant the landfill site would not accept the waste. We awaited instruction from our client Cala Homes whilst the lorries were at the landfill - an anxious couple of hours but all turned out well in the end and the site was clear of contamination ready for development. #housebuilders #knotweedremoval #knotweedexperts
