International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) reposted this
In our lifetime, we have the opportunity to eradicate a major public health issue – clear vision for everyone. With over 1B people around the world that need access and affordable glasses and can't see clearly, it’s going to take a village for us to do this. That’s why I’m so excited to have participated in this week’s Private Sector meeting at the World Health Organization’s headquarters as part of their SPECS initiative, which aims to increase URE (uncorrected refractive error) coverage rates across the globe, by 40% by 2030. In the room were other like-minded and successful executives in a wide array of Private Sector vision organizations: @DOT Glasses, Adam Boxer, EssilorLuxottica Anurag Hans and Kovin Naidoo, Hoya Vision Care, Marius de Beer and Pamela Pedrucci, Johnson & Johnson, Jason Betik and Natalie Mrak, Santen @Natalie Deferne, HuiTing Hsieh, Warby Parker Hannah Reeve Kowalski, ZEISS Vision Timo Kratzer and Joachim Kuss and of course, my company National Vision Inc. and Reade Fahs. A big THANK you to Alarcos Cieza and Stuart Keel from the World Health Organization for hosting and for the ongoing support of WHO Founding Committee Members and WHO Representatives that made sure we were informed, our voices were clearly heard and that actionable/impactful areas of focus were discussed and will be acted upon. Sumrana Yasmin, Amanda Davis, Pelin Munis, Ph.D., @Drew Keys, Tuwani Rasengane, Bashier Enoos, Doaa Sobeih, MD, MSc, MPA, MPH, Andreas Mueller, Vera Carneiro, Mitasha Yu, @Rosa Haghshenas, Vera Carneiro Lastly, call out to The Coalition for Clear Vision for their work in bringing the Private Sector into the fight and to our partners and friends at EYElliance for their tremendous achievements in this area as well. As all of these dedicated organizations and highly skilled health experts unite and forge an aligned and complimentary path, nothing will stop us from seeing blurry vision disappear in our lifetime! #SPECS, #LETSDOTHIS
