  • Taking pride in our communities is something we share strongly with our customers, and it is why it is inspiring to see the level of engagement from customers at local events. Last year, we saw over 900 customers take part in more than 17 different local engagement activities across the UK. These included street clean ups to community barbeques, service open days and gardening projects, as we worked to bring our customers closer together and help share the work we are doing to improve the local area. #SocialHousing #Communities

  • We completed 90 whole house retrofits in Cumbria with our SHDF Wave 1 retrofit project, and now the scheme has been completed for a period of time we are starting to see the real world impacts it is having on our customers. A number of our customers report saving hundreds of pounds per year on their bills, as their homes are cheaper to heat, and the greatly improved insulation and thermal efficiency means they retain that heat for longer. Securing those savings also help our customers in their own lives. One of our customers was even able to use the savings to pay of major debts in her life, which she describes as having made a transformative change to her mental health. #SocialHousing #Retrofit

  • Being involved in a project like the Sanderson Skills Academy alongside Vistry Group and Gateshead Council helps us play a key role in providing the skills and opportunities needed in our local communities to help deliver much-needed affordable homes. To know the difference it will make to young and unemployed people across our region is inspiring - and its name is a fitting tribute. Andy Hall, North East regional director of operations at Home Group, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in the Sanderson Skills Academy, especially as it is delivering courses that are so important to the housing sector and beyond. “A big challenge for housing associations is retrofitting our homes and meeting our targets for net-zero. So, it is great to see retrofit and green skills programmes on the curriculum.” #SocialHousing #NorthEast

  • As well as providing social housing, we also provide a range of care and support services to customers across the country. These include CQC-registered services, mental health support in the community, and services that provide a crucial joined-up approach to health and housing. For many of these services, we have formed strong, valuable local relationships that provide our customers with access to a much broader range of expertise and support. This includes working closely with our commissioners and the NHS, but also with local organisations within our and our customers' communities. In Whitehaven, we are thrilled to be part of a multi-organisation partnership bringing a new mental health hub to the town. It is part of NHS England's vision of improving mental health provision in our communities and sees us partner alongside the local NHS trust, leading national and local charities, and many other key stakeholders in improving Cumbrian mental health services. Just this week, that new mental health hub's name and location was revealed: Hope Haven, in the heart of Whitehaven town centre. We are excited to be playing a key role in improving mental health in the region. #SocialHousing #Care #MentalHealth #Cumbria #Whitehaven

  • We were delighted to show MPs, including Sojan Joseph and Tom Gordon, who are Co-Chairing the APPG on Adult Social Care, the work we are delivering. We fully support the APPG’s aims to be part of the solution for finding a sustainable social care model. The APPG wants to build a positive cross-party vision for the future for social care, unlock Parliament to the social care sector, and open the doors of social care to local MPs. Our team explained how our care services support our social mission, focusing on Complex Care (Transforming Care Agenda), Learning Disabilities & Autism and Older People. We had the opportunity to talk to MP’s across the country about the success stories of many of our customers, who have seen their lives turned round thanks to the support of our specialist teams. They heard from one such customer who attend the event in Parliament. We also had the opportunity to highlight the challenges we face delivering care services as well as some of the issues for the individual service type. There was widespread recognition that if we are to fix the NHS we must also solve the problems in social care. We are keen to work with MPs and partners who want to see positive change. That is why we will continue to engage in the conversation through APPG and MPs in the areas we have services in. We would encourage MP’s to visit services where they are in their locality to see the hugely positive impact social care is having. #SocialCare

  • Our commitment to delivering new affordable homes is not only about the quantity we deliver, but also about making sure we are delivering the right homes in the right areas and reflecting our communities' individual needs. In Gateshead, we are working with a number of partners to improve the choice and standard of local housing as part of the Gateshead Regeneration Partnership (GRP) - with more than 100 new affordable homes to be delivered across two sites. In High Spen, work has started to deliver 49 new family homes and ensure that there are new housing options being developed that can support the people of Gateshead in all stages of their lives. Meanwhile, right in the heart of Gateshead, work is also beginning on a further 62 affordable homes in Bensham. This includes 20 homes which have been specially designed to meet the needs of the local Jewish community. Delivering new affordable housing is vital to our communities, and making sure they are reflective of our local areas and their needs ensures a stronger community in the future. #SocialHousing #Development #Gateshead
