We are Hey! Food is Ready, a hyperlocal online marketplace connecting certified cooks from different cultural backgrounds with companies looking for a diverse selection of food at their events. Whether it is a buffet lunch, a weekly meeting, a networking event or a team celebration, we can accommodate for different group numbers and venues. We help refugees, immigrants, stay-at-home parents, retirees, or anyone who loves cooking to use our platform to share their native cuisine, culture, and stories with the wider community and generate a meaningful income. Our aim is to promote diversity in the workplace through food, showcase food cultures from minority ethnic groups, and support local cooks 👩🍳 We believe that food and culture are connected, they are essential for building the foundations of communities and encouraging cultural assimilation.   • Last week, we had the pleasure of catering for the Foundervine Wray Winter Gathering, serving delicious Caribbean food prepared by Chef Tyron. 🌴On the menu: Jerk Chicken Vegetable Curry Rice & Peas Coleslaw Chef Tyron, founder of Twerk'N'Jerk, is revolutionizing Jamaican street food with his vibrant approach. Featured in MyLondon as one of the UK’s best, Twerk'N'Jerk started as Tyron's lockdown project and quickly grew into a popular brand with a permanent spot at Catford Mews Cinema. Tyron’s unique blend of Turkish Cypriot and Jamaican influences results in bold, imaginative dishes that celebrate cultural fusion. Now, Tyron is collaborating with us, inviting food lovers to experience his diverse, inclusive flavors. We hope everyone enjoyed the food!     🌟 Introducing Yuru Guo, a Funding Futures Programme award winner and founder of Hey! Food is Ready. 🌟 27-year-old Yuru got the idea for setting up her social enterprise when she was a student wanting to connect and make friends through food. Fast forward only a few years and Hey! Food is Ready! has already catered the pre-event as part of Taylor Swift’s latest world tour at Wembley Stadium and even for the British Royal Family. 🍽️ Hey! Food is Ready! connects certified cooks from minority ethnic groups with companies seeking catering for events. The platform helps refugee, immigrant and stay-at-home cooks, to share their culture and stories while generating income. So far, the organisation’s chef community represents over 60 countries, and 80% of the chefs represented are female, compared to the industry standard of professional chefs, which is only 19%. Yuru, who has previously lived in New York, New Delhi and European cities and has family roots in Korea and China, now lives in Willesden Green, North London. 🔊 She said: “I think for people coming to a new country they can feel very disconnected from the community and their culture, and one of the main things that we can connect on is food. Food is the universal language. “I was living in Durham, and was sharing accommodation with people from all around the world, and I started hosting a Friday night potluck dinner together. And each of our friends would bring a dish that was part of their culture, a family recipe, and we would share the food and stories. “And I thought, why don't I create this, a platform where people, like my friends, can use it to share their native food cultures and family recipes with the wider community. “Also, I thought why can’t I help people gain a meaningful income through the platform. So like the idea of Uber or Airbnb, I was helping people to make a side hustle in the food space. “Now it has grown into a catering marketplace platform connecting independent chefs from different cultural backgrounds with companies looking for a diverse selection of event catering options."   • We recently collaborated with Foundervine at the beautiful Freemasons Hall to cater for The Foundervine Future Awards 2024, an event celebrating the outstanding achievements of diverse founders who are driving forward innovation and positive change 🤗 We worked with our chefs, Doni and Marcilio, who catered for 220 attendees.     Funding news from the Activate Studio portfolio! What started as a potluck dinner idea in Durham has now catered for the British Royal Family and Taylor Swift’s world tour! Yuru Guo, founder of portfolio startup Hey! Food is Ready is redefining the foodtech and social enterprise space. Her innovative online marketplace connects refugee, immigrant, and stay-at-home chefs with companies looking for culturally diverse catering options. To date, Hey! Food is Ready has partnered with 125 chefs from over 60 countries, with an inspiring 80% being women—compared to just 19% in the broader professional chef industry. With over 350 chefs on the waitlist, the impact of this platform is growing exponentially. Recently, Hey! Food is Ready secured £18,000 in funding from the Funding Futures Programme—a collaboration between UnLtd, Co-op Foundation, and Phoenix Group. This funding will enable the platform to scale and create even more opportunities for chefs from underrepresented backgrounds. At Hey! Food is Ready, we believe food has the power to bring people together in ways words cannot. It’s not just about what’s on the plate, but also the stories, love, and culture it carries. Our mission is to create a platform where those who have been overlooked—refugees, immigrants, stay-at-home parents, retirees, and passionate home cooks—can share their native cuisines and rich cultural traditions while earning a meaningful income.
