💙 Welcome to the world, Grey 💙 Born via emergency caesarean section after Mum, Laura started having contractions at 31 weeks, we are proud to be able to share baby Grey’s birth story. Grey spent eight weeks at The Portland Hospital for Women and Children, five on our specialist Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Under the expert care of our nursing and clinical teams, he overcame health challenges from breathing difficulties and a heart condition, to a potentially life-threatening disease called necrotising enterocolitis, to become the thriving baby he is now! It is a huge privilege to be able to support babies like little Grey and their families through some of their most difficult moments. We are hugely thankful to our expert and dedicated teams who make this possible. On baby Grey and his care at The Portland Hospital, Laura said; ‘Grey is really thriving now – he’s feeding well and is such a chilled baby, taking everything in his stride. We’re thankful every day to have him home. He is a true miracle.’ Read more about Grey and our NICU here: https://ow.ly/c6Iw50UpTJm #HCAHealthcareUK #HCAUK #NICU #NeonatalCare #ThePortlandHospital #PrematureBaby

It’s #throwbackthursday and we’re looking back at the story of N, who was given life-changing, non-surgical treatment with our incredible toe walking and physiotherapy teams at The Portland Hospital. “Meeting Denise Watson-Tann has been life changing for our daughter. The serial casting procedure she did on our daughter was the best non invasive procedure we could have to chosen, it enabled her to go from an extremely high tip toe walker to completely flat walker with the full range of mobility in her feet. We could not have been happier with Denise and the physiotherapy team at The Portland Hospital for the way they treated, cared and monitored our daughter’s walking development and for that we will forever be grateful!” To book an appointment, please contact our therapies team by phone at +44 20 7390 6551 or by email at therapies@hcahealthcare.co.uk

“The surgery was, and continues to be, life-changing – I am now doing things that I haven’t done for 20 years!” When Neil came to The Princess Grace Hospital for a consultation with Rob Pollock, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, he had been struggling with knee pain for over 20 years and was walking with a limp. He had been diagnosed with Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis (PVNS), a condition where the lining of a joint grows too much, causing pain, swelling, and inflammation. This in turn had progressed into severe osteoarthritis. Using Mako (Stryker) robotic technology, Mr Pollock was able to create 3D model of Neil's knee for a combined total knee replacement and PVNS removal. Just two months post-operation, Neil tried paddleboarding for the first time – and hasn’t looked back since! In fact, now two years on Neil completed a 28.4-mile ultra-walking marathon! “I know cancer’s a possibility for any of us, especially as we get older. But when I was experiencing issues with my eye, cancer was the last thing I would have expected.” Earlier this year, after noticing issues with the vision in his left eye, Gary was shocked to be diagnosed with a rare type of eye cancer called uveal melanoma. Despite having his eye surgically removed, just three months after his surgery, Gary was given the devastating news that his cancer had spread and there were no conventional treatment options available. However, his consultant knew of a new ground-breaking immunotherapy drug available through Professor Paul Nathan at HCA UK's Leaders in Oncology Care network. Gary shares his story of being diagnosed with a rare cancer, his treatment with Dr Nathan, and how he's focusing on doing the things he loves.
