  • Reacting to English Devolution white paper, Cllr Craig Leyland, Leader of East Lindsey District Council and Cllr Nick Worth, Leader of South Holland District Council, jointly said: “District Councils do a fantastic job in providing and maintaining high-quality services for local residents and driving growth in communities to support the local economy. “Local Government Reform has been a possibility for a number of years for two-tier areas like Lincolnshire and it seems this Government are keen to now make it happen. “Any reform arrangement must have its residents’ best interest at the core of decision making. Any new structure should benefit the local economy, support local democracy, employment and skills. It is important that any new unitary authority is the right size to best serve residents and democracy locally. “District Councils can successfully work as a partnership, as we have proven with the South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership where we have for three years been working more efficiently and delivering more for our communities collectively.” The Government white paper can be found in full here: https://loom.ly/L7VHu_g

  • East Lindsey District Council has ensured Government money stays invested in Alford after it has had to pause its regeneration scheme for the site of Alford Windmill. At Full Council today (December 11, 2024), Councillors voted to support the reallocation of Government money to Alford Manor House, ensuring the funds remain in the town to benefit the community. The Council had got the site of Alford Windmill scheme to such a good redevelopment position that members unanimously voted to approve planning consent in October. The project remains ready to go should the owners of the windmill, Lincolnshire County Council, be in a position to renovate it in the future, demonstrating East Lindsey District Council's ongoing commitment to the Alford Windmill project. Cllr Graham Marsh, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at East Lindsey District Council, said: "This was a brilliant project and we got it as far as we could possibly go. We have had little choice but to pause the scheme. "Alford Windmill is a historic attraction with great local importance for the town and wider East Lindsey. It was the anchor for this whole project and without a working mill - and a commitment to restore it from the owners - the whole site has no main attraction. "This project is multi-faceted and required the commitment of partners. At the time of the funding bid, the owners of the mill had committed to match funding work to ensure the windmill structure, cap and sails were brought back into working order. "East Lindsey is still committed to Alford Windmill and will continue to look for ways to complete the project." Read more here: https://loom.ly/6p6UHWU ALFORD MANOR HOUSE LIMITED Connected Coast

  • Horncastle in the House! 🙌 We’re delighted to have seen Horncastle, and East Lindsey more widely, featured in both evidence and reports for the House of Lords Built Environment Committee this year. In their recent report “High Streets: Life Beyond Retail?”, Horncastle was highlighted for its success at delivering Teenage Markets, referenced as examples of best practice alongside Carlisle and Sunderland and celebrating the progression young traders have been able to make through the programme 🛍️ The success of the markets in the town were also featured earlier this year by BBC Radio 4’s PM programme, as part of a wider discussion around high street regeneration 📻 East Lindsey was also raised at the Committee as part of written evidence on high streets in towns and small cities by the Institute of Place Management, who cited it as an example of successful delivery of the Vital and Viable programme, which works with local communities to protect, promote and preserve our market towns 👏 It is great to see well deserved recognition for everyone helping to make these fantastic programmes happen, and putting Horncastle and East Lindsey on the map nationally for our work on the future of markets and their towns 🗺️ For anyone interested in finding out more 👇 ➡️ The report ‘High Streets: Life beyond retail?’ can be read here: https://lnkd.in/ezUEa3fM ➡️ The IPM’s written evidence can be viewed here: https://lnkd.in/eZXAGmNT ➡️ You can find out more about our Vital and Viable Market Towns programme at: https://lnkd.in/eM_uvu6Z ➡️ And on Teenage Markets at: https://lnkd.in/eE3bniHk.
