What’s more effective for achieving organisational goals: great management or great leadership? If you are looking to build a high-performing leadership team, the short answer is both. They are two sides of the same role, and while good managers are not necessarily good leaders, truly great leaders must have sound management skills. Here is how they differ: 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Prioritises the organisation, overseeing tasks and processes to meet business goals. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽: Prioritises people, inspiring high performance by communicating a vision and aligning them with organisational goals. 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Organises and ensures tasks are completed, maintaining systems and structures. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽: Aligns people with long-term strategies, inspiring them to achieve ambitious objectives. 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Uses EQ to meet team needs and resolve conflicts. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽: Leverages EQ to connect emotionally, inspire, and align employees with the vision. We talk a lot about the importance of understanding your leadership team and how the individual members perform alone, but more importantly as part of that team. Great leaders are able to adapt their style to suit the situation. Here are the final three leadership styles. (Find the first three in our post yesterday): 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 💡 Collaborative and inclusive, democratic leaders encourage input, build trust, and boost team engagement. By involving others in decision-making, they foster commitment and job satisfaction. 🛑 Not ideal when quick decisions or major organisational changes are needed. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 💡 Inspiring and motivational, transformational leaders empower their teams, focusing on personal growth and strong relationships. They prioritise trust and elevate team culture. 🛑 Requires the right environment—trust, resources, and openness to change are essential. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 💡 Goal-oriented and structured, transactional leaders drive short-term results with clear expectations and consistency. Ideal for stable, predictable situations. 🛑 Limits creativity and long-term innovation by focusing solely on meeting expectations. Leadership isn’t one-size-fits-all. Which of these resonates with your approach to driving success? DRAX is part of The LCap Group along with Altus Partners #leadership #PrivateEquity #leaders

At DRAX we believe leadership shapes business success, and understanding the leadership style of your leadership team – and of course your own is the key to driving performance. Here are three of the most common leadership styles: 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽: 💡 Flexible, creative, and resilient, adaptive leaders thrive in rapidly changing or complex situations. They foster collaboration, encourage diverse perspectives, and innovate when no clear solution exists. 🛑 Not ideal for clear-cut problems with straightforward solutions. 𝗟𝗮𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘇-𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 💡 Hands-off and empowering, this style works well with self-motivated, highly skilled teams. It boosts ownership and job satisfaction. 🛑 Can falter when employees lack the expertise to work independently. 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 💡 Decisive and direct, it’s effective in emergencies or when quick action is needed. Clear expectations ensure alignment. 🛑 Overuse may stifle creativity, lower morale, and increase turnover. Tomorrow we will share the final three leadership styles. But for now, which leadership style resonates most with you? DRAX is part of The LCap Group along with Altus Partners #leadership #PrivateEquity #business

The “continuous improvement” approach has transformed industries, sport, and business alike. The most well-known advocate for marginal gains, Sir Dave Brailsford, demonstrated how making small, consistent 1% improvements can deliver extraordinary results. In fast-growth businesses, those same fine margins are the difference between scaling successfully and falling behind. Leadership teams, alongside private equity investors, know all too well the importance of engineering every aspect of their strategy - whether through M&As, operational efficiency, or market expansion. And the ultimate lever for value creation? Great leadership. At DRAX we’ve identified four key factors that determine leadership success: 1️⃣ Functional competence – Is the team equipped with the right expertise across key areas like finance, operations, and IT? 2️⃣ Situational competence – Have leaders tackled challenges similar to the ones they now face? 3️⃣ Behavioural competence – Are behaviours like Pragmatism, Agility, Curiosity, and Execution aligned to ensure streamlined collaboration, or are there tensions causing drag? 4️⃣ Cognitive diversity – Do they bring diverse perspectives to spark innovation, problem-solving, and creativity? Too often, leadership teams evolve organically, leaving gaps, inefficiencies, or mismatches that hinder success. By diving deep into these four areas, we provide our Clients with critical insights to ensure their leaders can achieve peak performance. What happens when DRAX Partner Louise Stephenson (Associate CIPD) hosts 165 senior women and male allies for the final Empowering Women in Business Network event of 2024? 💥 A panel of three fabulous leaders share their career journeys. 💥 Hazel Showell captures the audience, talking about the psychology of being a fearless leader. 💥 The Rock Choir brings the house down with their Christmas songs. 💥 Over £11,000 is raised for Prevent Breast Cancer in just four hours. Louise was first joined on stage by an inspiring panel - David Kendrick, Partner at Cooper Parry, Clare Roberts OBE, Founder and CEO Kids Planet, and Beth Houghton, Partner at Palatine - who spoke candidly about their differing career journeys. After lunch, Louise took to the stage again with Hazel Showell, who spoke about working with the fight-or-flight instinct. She was then joined by Prevent Breast Cancer CEO Nikki Barraclough, who has since said: "What an incredible event and what an incredible year. When Louise set the challenge of raising £50,000 in 2024, having raised £25,000 in 2023, I never doubted she would do it. And wow - a total of £56,138 will go towards our big build of the National Breast Imaging Centre right here in Manchester." Louise added: "I am so proud of everything the network has achieved this year. To the 16 panellists who have given up their time this year, to the 30 females and their families who have taken part in breathtaking - and exhausting - challenges to help me smash our fundraising target, and to everyone who has attended one of our four events, I am so grateful. I cannot wait for 2025, where I will take the network across the Northwest into Leeds and continue to drive my purpose of supporting more senior female leaders into board positions." The Christmas Lunch event was supported by Sarah Bateman of Unify Energy. We look forward to sharing the plans for the 2025 events in the New Year. Private equity investors are often attracted to sectors undergoing rapid change. Sureserve, a major player in energy services and compliance, shifted from AIM to private equity-backed ownership to accelerate its desire to drive change in the social housing and public sector energy solutions. Under Cap10 Partners LLP investment since 2023, the company is evolving to meet government energy performance targets while tackling fuel poverty. In an interview with Graham Levinsohn, Sureserve Chair and Group CEO, Adam Mahmood explored the opportunities in energy transition alongside the shift from PLC to PE-backed agility.
