About us

Cruelty Free International is one of the world’s longest standing and most respected animal protection organisations. Widely regarded as an authority on animal testing issues we are frequently called upon by governments, media, corporations and official bodies for our advice and expert opinion. For over 100 years, we have championed progressive, humane scientific research and cruelty free living. We also certify cruelty free cosmetics, personal care and household products under our Leaping Bunny certification. A Big Step Forward for Animal Protection 🌍🐰   In December, our very own Heather Nixon, Bio-D’s Sustainability and Regulatory Manager, had the privilege of attending an important event at the House of Commons, hosted by Cruelty Free International. It was inspiring to see Labour MP Sarah Champion urge the government to take meaningful action to end animal testing for household and cosmetic products while upholding cruelty-free commitments.   At Bio-D, having the Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny logo on all our products isn’t just a badge – it’s a pledge. A pledge to you, to the planet, and most importantly, to the animals that rely on us to champion their welfare. It represents the tireless work of the Cruelty Free International team, who campaign so passionately on behalf of businesses like ours to make cruelty-free the global standard.   We’re incredibly grateful to Michelle Thew and the Cruelty Free International team for the invitation and for leading this critical conversation. It’s events like these that strengthen our resolve to continue creating ethical, sustainable products that don’t harm our planet or its inhabitants.   Let’s make 2025 the year we collectively push harder for a cruelty-free future.   #CrueltyFree #Sustainability #BioD #HouseOfCommons #LeapingBunny #EthicalLiving

Brand Director - KMI Brands (Noughty, Plantopia, Ted Baker Fragrance & Beauty) | DEI Committee Member of the British Beauty Council | B Corp

I had the pleasure of attending a Parliamentary reception, hosted by Sarah Champion MP and Cruelty Free International yesterday. Key Highlights - The government manifesto states that Labour will “partner with scientists, industry, and civil society as we work towards the phasing out of animal testing”.  - Sarah Champion MP spoke passionately that as industry leaders we must be ambitious. Be bold. Hold Labour to account to deliver on their manifesto commitment. - Michelle Thew, as always leading and inspiring, urging that we bring energy to turn the Government’s words into action. Citizens, consumers and industry want this change. - Good science, and good innovation is non-animal. Did you know that in 2023, there were 2.68 million uses of animals for scientific purposes in Great Britain? 18% of animal uses in 2023 were classified as causing moderate or severe pain or distress.* At KMI Brands Ltd Noughty and Plantopia are approved as cruelty free under the Leaping Bunny programme. Animal welfare and cruelty free beauty continuously features in our communities' top values and concerns. Please support and shop brands that are Leaping Bunny approved and look to https://lnkd.in/eza4M5Vj to see how you can support the global fight to end animal testing. #crueltyfreebeauty #leapingbunny #businessforgood *Source: Cruelty Free International 2023, see photo for more details.

  • We co-hosted a successful Christmas Reception at the House of Commons on Wednesday, where our co-host, Labour MP Sarah Champion urged supporters to "not let Labour off the hook" in their calls to end animal testing in the UK. The event was attended by more than 25 MPs and several Parliamentary Assistants, along with senior staff from over 10 Leaping Bunny-approved brands. Champion, MP for Rotherham, reiterated her wish for a 'cruelty-free Christmas.' Swipe to read what Champion said 👉 Our CEO, Michelle Thew, echoed Champion by saying, “2024 has been a momentous year for lots of reasons – politically, obviously – and we have a real opportunity now to see change happen. We’ve had a really positive year. We’ve set out our cruelty-free manifesto, we had tens of thousands of supporters contacting their MPs, and hundreds and hundreds of pledges from election candidates – and now we have a government committed to that change. We stand ready to deliver that commitment.” Help support our mission for a #CrueltyFreeChristmas with a kind donation for animals in laboratories. • We are urgently calling the UK Government for enhanced monitoring and stronger enforcement of laws that protect animals in scientific experiments. There is a staggering 860% rise in animals affected by violations of UK animal testing regulations in 2023 - revealed in a new report by the Home Office’s Animals in Science Regulation Unit (ASRU), which regulates the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA).  Swipe to read key insights from the report 👉 Our Director of Science and Regulatory Affairs, Dr Emma Grange said, “Yet again, the cases in the  ASRU  report illustrate a long-running systemic failure to protect animals and a lack of care for or interest in the wellbeing of animals used in laboratories.” Read the full article and support our mission to create a #CrueltyFreeUK: https://bit.ly/4gpduQK #CrueltyFree #AnimalWelfare #EndAnimalTesting

And breathe… 🧘♂️ A very successful afternoon at our Cruelty Free International Christmas reception. There’s something about the pressure of event planning that just hits different but the reward when things go well is all the better for it. Thanks to Sarah Champion MP for sponsoring the room and inviting us to keep up the pressure on government to deliver on their commitment to phase out animal testing. Thanks also to Michelle Thew for inspiring us all and Jenna Whittingham-Ward for opening our eyes to the work of Florence Boot. A great way to celebrate a succesfull 2024 and build momentum into 2025. #crueltyfreechristmas #crueltyfree #endanimaltesting #houseofcommons
