Formerly FRAME. New look, new name, same mission: a world where no animal suffers for science.
About us
FRAME believes in the development of better scientific methods for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. Its ultimate aim is the elimination of the need to use laboratory animals in any kind of medical or scientific procedures, but FRAME accepts that a total end to their use cannot be achieved immediately. However, the current scale of animal experimentation is unacceptable.

The Replacing Animal Research team is logging off until the new year (off socials anyway; we'll still be beavering away behind the scenes for a while yet!) This year has been huge for us. We've: - Changed our name after over 50 years as FRAME! - Seen a new government elected with a manifesto promise to phase out animal testing - Funded some incredible research - Spoke up and down the country to researchers, policymakers, and decision-makers about replacing animals in medical experiments. Now, we need a little bit of time to relax and recharge so we can hit the ground running in 2025. How has 2024 treated you and your goals? #Charity #NewLook #NewBrand

Non-animal methods are often associated with high-tech solutions… But do they need to be? ATLA's Technical Editor Rita shares that sometimes, it's about using what we already have and getting creative. We'd love to know your thoughts! What's the most innovative non-animal method you've heard of? Has your lab managed to do something new using techniques and equipment you already had? https://lnkd.in/epp9vi36

Do we need a curriculum reform? Short answer: yes! Longer answer: Yes, and our Head of Policy and Programmes Amy Beale explains why in our latest blog, including how some very simple changes could make a huge difference. We'd love to know what your experience was like learning about animal research at school. https://lnkd.in/gCjck44U

When is an animal an animal? This might seem like an obvious question to you, but if we dig a little deeper, it becomes more complex than we might imagine. For example: did you know, the United States of America doesn't count mice as animals in their animal research statistics? Confusing, right? While people might have less than complimentary nicknames for mice like "pests", we generally all agree they're animals. But it might be less confusing when we start to question why. Mice are the most commonly used animal in research, worldwide. By not legally classifying them as animals in research: - Statistics look like fewer animals are used - Mice may have less legal protections when they are used in research Sometimes what is, and isn't, an animal is purely political or based on technicalities. Great Britain has similar issues where, despite recognising their sentience, many invertebrate animals have little legal protection in scientific research. So, what can we do? We can champion ALL animals, human and non-human, whatever their legal status, and fight for a future where no animal suffers for science. #AnimalRightsDay #InternationalAnimalRights #AnimalRights
