A global collaborative for systems change
About us
Co-Impact is a global collaborative focused on advancing inclusive systems change, gender equality, and women’s leadership through grant making and influencing philanthropy. We bring together a group of results-oriented funders, program partners and advisors who are pooling resources, networks, and expertise to enable lasting change at scale that will improve the lives of millions. Through our two funds, we aim to co-create more just, inclusive and gender-equitable health, education, and economic systems, and to advance women’s leadership, power and agency at all levels. We source and partner with locally-rooted and women-led initiatives in Africa, Asia, and Latin America that are working to address underlying conditions that perpetuate social inequities and provide them with significant and long-term grant and non-financial support to drive scalable and sustainable impact. Our approach builds on and supports the work and experience of civil society, government and philanthropic partners. By collaborating, and creating a platform for others to join, Co-Impact and its partners seek to achieve far more together than possible alone. To find out more, please visit co-impact.org.

Over the past few years, people living in extreme poverty have faced so many challenges — from the fallout of a global pandemic to climate shocks and displacement. As a result, the number of people living in extreme poverty has increased, highlighting the urgent need for development initiatives that are evidence-based, scalable, and resilient to future crises. #EconomicInclusion is one such solution. We're proud to have contributed to the newly released State of Economic Inclusion Report 2024: Pathways to Scale from our program partner Partnership for Economic Inclusion, which sheds light on the progress made in empowering millions of people through skills-building, securing better jobs, and building resilience against future shocks. This report underscores the key role of collaboration among governments, NGOs, and the private sector if we are to achieve scale. It is through partnerships that we can truly accelerate progress and bring change to the lives of millions of people.
🌍 Economic inclusion programs are growing, but there’s more work to be done. The recently released “State of Economic Inclusion Report 2024: Pathways to Scale” highlights remarkable progress, with the number of programs nearly doubling since 2021. Coverage has increased by 50%, now reaching 15 million households and benefiting over 70 million people across 88 countries. Yet, economic inclusion programs currently reach only 10% of those living in extreme poverty, a stark reminder of the critical need to scale up efforts and prioritize the most marginalized and hard-to-reach populations. Scaling up economic inclusion programs successfully requires powerful partnerships. While governments are at the forefront, collaboration with non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, and the private sector is essential to overcome capacity challenges and maximize impact. 📖 Explore the full report and join the conversation on how we can expand these transformative programs! 👉 https://bit.ly/4fWdCXl #EconomicInclusion #PovertyReduction

"Philanthropy must recognize that all issues are gendered." In a new thought-provoking article for Alliance magazine, our Director of Programs, Global & Latin America, Alfonsina Peñaloza, highlights how philanthropy can help both visibilize and address the gender failings of the current economic model. Economic models often fail women, especially those from marginalized groups, who face multiple challenges: economic instability, gender-based violence, and systemic inequities like unpaid care work. Alfonsina emphasizes that philanthropy can help drive change by funding feminist economic research, supporting women’s leadership in economics, and promoting policies that prioritize care and equity. A holistic, gender-inclusive approach isn’t just beneficial—it’s essential to building an economy that works for everyone. This piece is part of Alliance magazine’s December issue, guest edited by the incredible Jo Swinson and Crystal Simeoni, a member of our Gender Fund Advisory Board, and appears alongside other contributions on #systemchange, #genderjustice, and #philanthropy from Romy Krämer, (Guerrilla Foundation), Charles Keidan, Shafi Musaddique, Agustín Landa, fan li and others. Congratulations to our program partner Teaching at the Right Level Africa (TaRL Africa) on celebrating their 5th anniversary during their just concluded 2024 conference!🎉🎉 TaRL Africa works with governments and partners in Africa to address an urgent challenge: without intervention, half of all primary students in Sub-Saharan Africa will enter adolescence without basic literacy and numeracy skills, negatively impacting their and the continent's future. Speaking in a panel session during the conference, Joel Kamoko from Zambia's Ministry of Education and our Director of Programs Abe Grindle, aptly summarized why we love the TaRL approach so much: Joel: "With TaRL, we found a methodology that was affordable, simple, used local materials and gave us confidence that we could have a literate population." Abe: "We would love to see TaRL Africa's evidence-based, simple and demand-driven approach institutionalized within public education systems so that it can embedded in every classroom." TaRL Africa's approach has proven effective and scalable in diverse contexts across 16 African countries, improving learning outcomes for 5.4 million children to date. By 2023, TaRL Africa aims to enable education systems in 20 countries to equip 20 million children with foundational skills. Now, that's a goal worth celebrating - and supporting! #FoundationalLearning #5YrsofTaRLAfrica #TaRLAfricaConf2024"

Just published! 16 recommendations for governments and partners to take action in ensuring women community health workers are safe, supported, and fairly compensated so they can deliver the lifesaving care their patients need. Women make up 70% of the community health workforce and investing in them is essential for driving progress toward the sustainable development goals, including universal health coverage and gender equality. By dismantling barriers that limit women’s potential, implementers, policymakers, governments, and funders can drive lasting social and economic benefits for communities and build resilient health systems. Investing in women’s leadership in law and justice yields significant economic and social returns, shaping equitable policies for just and inclusive societies. Earlier this year in The Rockefeller Foundation's Bellagio Center, Co-Impact and Purpose, GQUAL Campaign, FEMNET - African Women's Development and Communication Network, IAWL ~ Institute for African Women in Law, Clooney Foundation for Justice, Asia Justice Coalition, Global Health 50/50, University of Johannesburg, International Association of Women Judges launched a coalition working to advance #WomenInLeadership in Law. The coalition will be participating in a panel discussion and a #LeadersTalk at the Reykjavík Global Forum #Reykjavik24 on redefining women’s leadership in law and moving beyond stereotypes and echo chambers. We’re advocating for stronger representation of women in law & justice, and the enabling environment critical for women to thrive in their careers so that they can reach positions of power, agency, and influence. At the Forum, the coalition will share insights into the institutional barriers holding women back, why it matters, and actionable steps the global community can take to drive progress. Watch this space as we will be sharing the key takeaways from these conversations soon! #WomenInLaw #PowerTogether
