About us

Since Sir Lawrie Barratt built his first home near Newcastle in 1958, we have become the nation’s largest housebuilder, with more than 6,000 employees and 29 divisions throughout Britain. As the UK’s most recognisable and recommended housebuilder, our vision is to lead the future of housebuilding by putting customers at the heart of everything we do. We build new homes and neighbourhoods across the country, from Aberdeen to Plymouth, helping to meet housing need in urban and rural areas. We are also leaders in brownfield development and urban regeneration. Wherever we build, we know how much a home matters, so we take pride in creating high quality homes and sustainable places. Our three brands, Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes and Barratt London offer a variety of properties, from stylish city-centre apartments to luxury detached houses in the beautiful countryside. As well as homes for ownership, we build properties for rent and shared ownership, often working with local authority or housing association partners. We also have a commercial business, Wilson Bowden, which creates spaces from industrial and office buildings to retail and leisure. Oregon, a leading timber-frame manufacturer, underlines our commitment to modern methods of construction. For our current job vacancies, please visit www.barrattcareers.co.uk.

  • Congratulations to Hari Budha Magar MBE FRGS for winning a Pride of Britain special recognition award last night. The award was given to Hari for his amazing feats showing what is possible for people with a disability. Last year Hari summitted Everest, becoming the first ever double above knee amputee to stand on top of the world’s tallest mountain. Along the way he is also raising funds for charities that have supported him and helped so many others. We’re really proud to be an official supporter of Hari, both when he scaled Mount Everest, and now on his latest challenge climbing the tallest mountains on each of the world’s seven continents. Well done Hari!

  • Huge congratulations to our colleague Kirk Raine for winning a prestigious NHBC Pride in the Job 2024 Regional Award for his work at The Clockmakers in Whitchurch, Shropshire. Kirk is a site manager for David Wilson Homes Mercia and is one of the absolute best in the business. He has previously won the top Supreme award three times, and will now go on to compete for it once more in January 2025. Now in its 44th year and considered to be the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry, Pride in the Job is the benchmark for judging site managers. To be crowned the Supreme winner means you are the best site manager in the country from over 8,000 who enter. The competition is at the heart of raising standards in housebuilding, with the awards showcasing the role site managers play in ensuring much needed new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites, and to the highest quality standards. We have won more Pride in the Job awards than any other housebuilder for 20 years in a row now, underlining just how important building high quality homes is to Barratt.

  • Last week, we proudly hosted our Spotlight Programmes ‘High Visibility’ event, were we brought together our current and incoming cohorts. The event was a celebration of the 2023 cohort's achievements and a warm welcome to the 2024 group. Across the event, we connected 50 of our people through icebreakers, self-reflection and engaging activities; encouraging them to be open and build a wider network of like-minded people who share similar experiences. It was inspirational to see the personal growth of the individuals in the closing cohort, with key takeaways being confidence, connection and self-advocacy. For the incoming cohort, it was a great opportunity to get excited about the upcoming year. Our Spotlight Programme aims to support our people from ethnic minority backgrounds in navigating our organisation successfully, as we recognise there can be differing challenges when outside the majority. Employees self-nominate for the 12-month programme, which is delivered in person and virtually. The programme aims to equip the delegates with the opportunity for open conversation, shared experiences, mentoring, coaching, and self-development as we work towards better reflecting the communities in which we build. #BuildingWithoutBarriers

  • We are thrilled that Sophie Wilson, from the Matt Hampson Foundation, came second in a competition to find the world’s fittest adaptive athlete. Sophie is head of operations at the Foundation, which supports and inspires young people after life-changing injury in sport. We have been a long term partner of the Matt Hampson Foundation, and were delighted to have supported Sophie as she travelled to America to take part in the World Adaptive Crossfit Games in Texas. The Crossfit Games ran over four days, testing 300 competitors from all over the world in a series of workouts designed to provide competition for all categories of adaptive athlete. Sophie finished in the top two places in each discipline to take second place in her category overall. Sophie said: “What a journey! I couldn’t have done it without the incredible support of Barratt, who made it possible for me to cross the pond and compete against the world’s best adaptive athletes. Your ongoing belief in me means the world – thank you!”

  • We’ve partnered with Own New to offer an innovative new mortgage product – called Rate Reducer – which is available through select mortgage brokers. Steve Mariner, Group Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, said: “With Rate Reducer, rates of less than 1.49 per cent could be available. It will offer more power to consumers over their monthly outgoings, which in turn will give many more people the confidence to make their first or next home move.” To help make it easier for buyers to decide if Own New - Rate Reducer is right for them, we’ve put together a quick guide to how it works. What is Own New - Rate Reducer? Own New - Rate Reducer is a normal mortgage that is available on new build homes through selected lenders with interest rates from below 1.49%. How does the scheme work? Own New - Rate Reducer works by using developer incentives, typically three or five percent of the property value, to reduce the monthly mortgage payments over the initial mortgage term. Who qualifies for Own New – Rate Reducer? Own New - Rate Reducer is available to all buyers of new build properties, from first-time buyers to next steppers, and downsizers. Which company could I take my mortgage out with? The lenders who have signed-up to the scheme so far: Halifax, Virgin Money, Furness Building Society, Darlington Building Society and Perenna.   Will I own my home? You will own 100% of your home. How do I find out more about Own New – Rate Reducer? To find out more about Own New - Rate Reducer, visit: https://lnkd.in/e4YrP7B2 This scheme is one of many that we offer. • We want to help communities throughout the UK to thrive. This is why we set up the Barratt Foundation, to channel our charitable giving, focusing our support on children and young people and those most disadvantaged. This week the Charities Aid Foundation released their annual report into charitable giving from FTSE100 companies. We're proud to be the housebuilder which gives the most, donating £6.3m last year, and to be ranked 30th in the FTSE100 overall. Just this week, we announced a new £300,000 partnership with Street League, the youth unemployment charity, and we have been long-standing supporters of the Outward Bound Trust. We will continue to try and leave a powerful and positive legacy in the communities in which we work. https://lnkd.in/eXDVunNv
