Exploring architecture in its social, political, and cultural contexts. Reciprocity - Architectures of Exchange #AF2025
About us
WHAT IS THE ARCHITECTURE FRINGE? The Architecture Fringe was founded in 2015 and launched in 2016 by a group of architects, designers, photographers, engineers, visual artists and curators to encourage public debate about architecture and design in Scotland within its broader socio-political context. The Architecture 2018 will be our third edition of the festival. In 2017 the fringe hosted over 50 projects from around 260 contributirs in 37 venues across Scotland. The Architecture Fringe is a registered non-profit Community Interest Company and is run by a dedicated group of volunteers. WHY AN ARCHITECTURE FRINGE? Why do we do what we do? - to support new work and emerging practice in architecture in Scotland - to develop a friendly but critical community of voices to connect, support and challenge each other - to offer a platform to encourage a wider conversation about architecture and design in Scotland in a contemporary socio-political context - to engage internationally with other people and organisations.

🌿It’s been a real privilege to open A Fragile Correspondence at the V&A Dundee - returning Scotland’s contribution to the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale to home turf. Conceptualised, curated and designed by the Architecture Fringe, ism magazine, and /other the exhibition explores three varied landscapes across Scotland - Loch Ness, Orkney and Ravenscraig, examining the relationship between land, architecture and language, to think about new ways of working in connection to the land rather than simply upon it. The exhibition hosts work from a stellar array of contributors: Mairi McFadyen, Raghnaid Sandilands, Dele Adeyemo, Tine Collective, Dr Amanda Thomson, Becky Little, Tom Warren, Aaron McCarthy and Prof. Donna Heddle as well as curatorial responses by the Architecture Fringe, -ism magazine, and /other. The beautiful research films are by Simon Forsythe at Lateral North and we are grateful for the support and camaraderie of Ann Louise Kieran at North Lanarkshire Council. For this edition, a particular shout-out to Neil McGuire, Kristina Enberg and Mia Pinder-Hussein with whom it’s been a real pleasure to closely collaborate on the exhibition design these past eleven months. We have been wonderfully supported by curators Miriam Mallalieu and Svetlana Panova and we deeply appreciate their experience, attention to detail, and patience. Production and install has been magnificent viac Scott Brotherton. Thank you, too, to Leonie Bell and Caroline Grewar for their encouragement and support. A Fragile Correspondence is now open at the V&A Dundee until Spring and is free to visit. A massive thank you to all the wonderful friends, family and partners in crime who joined us for the beautiful opening on Thursday evening. #afragilecorrespondence #architecture #vadundee #scotlandvenice
