During his keynote address at the National Broadband Network (NBN) Forum, Aamir Ibrahim , CEO of Jazz, underscored the urgency for Pakistan to adopt 5G and position itself among global leaders in technological transformation. With over 50% smartphone penetration, the timing is ripe, but the journey is fraught with challenges. He emphasized the need to learn from past spectrum auctions, where limited competition in 2021, 2017, and 2016 hindered optimal outcomes. A robust auction design must foster healthy competition, attract substantial bids, and avoid selling spectrum at base prices. Aamir also highlighted the broader economic challenges facing the telecom sector, including inflationary pressures, rising fuel costs, and dependency on imported equipment, which have significantly escalated operational expenses. Coupled with dollar-indexed fees for technical services, this creates a stark mismatch between revenues and costs for telecom operators. He called for collaborative solutions and a collective commitment to innovation, infrastructure growth, and sustainable policies to pave the way for 5G in Pakistan.

Asif Aziz, President of Enterprise Solutions at Jazz, shared his vision for transformative leadership with students at Air University, Islamabad, during a session titled “Successful Leaders & Organizations of Tomorrow.” Drawing from Jazz’s evolution from a telecom provider to a digital operator, Asif outlined five leadership shifts for the future: - Impact over profit - Wholeness over expectations - Collaboration over command - Evolution over control - Co-creation over competition He emphasized that leadership today must go beyond profit-driven strategies to align organizational goals with societal and environmental progress. Citing examples from Jazz's own journey and global transformations like Netflix and DBS, Asif underscored the importance of bold vision, authenticity, and an ecosystem mindset. Future leaders, he remarked, must not only drive innovation but also embrace humanity, foster trust, and champion continuous learning. At Jazz, these principles are shaping our transformation into a ServiceCo, focused on fintech, cloud, insure-tech, and entertainment solutions. Here’s to cultivating leaders who will inspire holistic growth and create lasting impact for all.
