We’re highlighting some of the most active and exciting new CVC funds launched in 2024 that are members of our Counter Club community. While we predict the number of new CVCs launched in 2024 was down to just 17 funds from the previous high of 143 funds launched only 2 years ago (according to PitchBook data), we are still seeing CVC participation in overall VC deals at around 25% or a quarter of every VC-backed deal. The importance of CVC to the overall ecosystem has not dwindled. Last week we released a list of New Kids on the Block, recognizing recently launched funds in our community around the world. These funds are applying discipline and method to their investment approach and we are pleased to have them as members of our community: BlueScopeX - Andrew Garey Michael Quinn CNH Ventures -  Michele Lombardi Ki Tua Fund -  Rachel Resek William Robertson Prisma Ventures - Roberto Ayala , Agustina Sartori, Kristen Shimp (DeVries), CPA   We also want to highlight the honorable mention group, representing funds that launched this past year:  Kyocera Ventures (KYOCERA Global, KYOCERA AVX Components Corporation) - Richard Johnson, Kenji Kodomari, Shiva Chandra, CFA Allison Ventures (Allison Transmission): Justin LaRocca, Jordan Turk, MBA R3D3 Ventures - Colin Cheung, David Ye “Iron Entrepreneur”   Check out the full list with leaders in other categories including investment pace, deal velocity and financial orientation:  https://lnkd.in/gvYGpG-8   #CounterClub #CorporateVenture

  • Congrats on Tread.fi's second anniversary and looking forward to support you in the exciting year ahead!

View profile for David Jeong, graphic

    CEO - tread.fi

tread.fi was founded in November 2022 when the price of Bitcoin was $16,300. Our first exchange integration was with FTX. Within a week, we had to essentially scrap that entire module. We raised money during the paradoxical bear market—when there was supposedly a lot of dry powder, but VCs weren’t writing many checks. In our early days, the only mention of crypto in the news was either about SEC lawsuits or funds being shut down. In retrospect, the hardest task as a first-time founder was not learning the skills required to become a good founder, but rather discovering what those skills actually are. Each industry, business, company and founder is unique and subsequently, so are the skills to succeed. Through hundreds of iterations, I willingly sought failure, just to figure out what I needed to do to improve for the next time. There is a wide margin between self-confidence and self-doubt. Consistently crossing that line is uncomfortable and exhausting, but it is the only way to grow. As we reflect on our second anniversary, it has been the perfect two years to start the company. The challenges gifted to us throughout the bear market provided us with invaluable learning opportunities that will forever define who we are. Nietzsche summarizes it pretty well, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

As Singapore buzzed with energy from TOKEN2049 , DealStreetAsia PE/VC Summit, RWA Summit by Centrifuge , and SuperReturn last week, we decided to host our friends and partners. • We are thrilled to share that our portfolio Stori, the Mexico-based fintech company, has successfully raised $212 million in a recent equity and debt round! 🎉 We’ve been with Stori since the very beginning, writing the first check when the business model was still in its early stages. We stood by them as they pivoted to the credit card builder model, a strategic move that catapulted Stori through multiple funding rounds and into the hands of millions across Latin America. 🌎 We are incredibly excited about the incredible potential of Latin America's fintech landscape and Stori's continued mission to empower underserved communities with accessible financial services. As a key player in the region's financial revolution, Stori is setting new benchmarks, and we're proud to be a part of their journey. Congratulations to the entire Stori team for this significant milestone! #Fintech #LatAm #FinancialInclusion #Mexico

  • Rise of East Asia CVC is certainly keeping up momentum. R3D3 Venture's Managing Partner Colin Cheung representing at CVC Networking event alongside IVS conference in Kyoto last month

    Partner at Saison Capital

In Japan, half of venture funds are CVCs. The other half (independent funds) are also often backed by corporates The rise of CVCs is inevitable, with growing influence in Asia and beyond On Thursday evening, MUFG Innovation Partners and Credit Saison Co., Ltd. (with not just one, but two CVCs - Saison Capital & Saison Ventures) co-hosted a CVC Networking Evening on the sidelines of IVS We welcomed a packed room of founders and investors, and together unpacked the opportunities and challenges of raising from CVCs Highlighting advice from the veteran CVCs on the panel (my words, not theirs): Ryu Hirota of MUFG Innovation Partners - Partner up with CVCs only when it’s win-win. Do not enter a non-beneficial commercial deal with the parent company, just to raise CVC capital Colin Cheung of R3D3 Ventures - Understand the CVC’s objectives, especially whether it’s pure financial or strategic. It sounds obvious, but making the effort at the beginning leads to more fruitful outcomes Fumihide URATA of Saison Ventures - CVCs are part of larger organisations, so it is important to figure out each CVC’s unique investment decision process. Relationships are important, but process should also be followed Many thanks to all who came and contributed to the vibrant discussions!
