When was the last time someone told you that you're wrong? Is the boss always right? On The Straits Times Headstart on Record podcast, Hong Yi Tay asked me what the most interesting challenge of being a young leader? My take: to have an environment where your team is willing to share a different opinion, and even call you out when mistakes are made. Far too often, Asian culture demands submission. If the boss says A, you do A. Combined with the insecurity and hubris of youth, it is no wonder that many young founders and leaders go unchecked, leading to bad (or even fraudulent) behavior Saying "we have a great culture" is easy. Asking oneself - "when was the last time someone told you that you're wrong", and what your response was - that might be more telling Listen to this podcast episode for more The Straits Times: https://lnkd.in/geghp5XY Spotify: https://lnkd.in/gKK3EpbU Apple Podcast: https://lnkd.in/gzuy6wM4 Thanks for the invite Hong Yi Tay and Amirul Karim

"For ESOPs to be effective, employees need to feel genuinely engaged with the company's mission and long-term vision." Eduardo del Giglio, Co-Founder & CEO of Caju shares his perspectives on ESOP - "Even though knowledge of ESOPs has become increasingly widespread in the company, some employees still prefer to receive cash compensation instead. We at Caju invest time and effort to explain ESOPs to our team members, and this approach has been instrumental in helping us retain talent. With ESOPs, employees become more engaged with the company's vision and goals, fostering a strong belief in Caju's potential." On the State of ESOPs in LATAM report, Eduardo says, "This is an instrumental report in helping employees understand how ESOP works and, more importantly, how it can create personal value." • "We have a stock option plan that every employee in the company participates in." Christophe Gerlach, Co-Founder & CEO of Comp, explains why he awards ESOPs to everyone in his company - "It’s very important to foster a culture of ownership—less of a “me versus the company” mindset and more of an “I’m part of the company, and I benefit from its success” approach. This encourages everyone to do whatever it takes to make the company successful. It’s a key part of our culture: we want people to feel like owners rather than employees of a large organization where they’re just a cog in the machine." On the State of ESOPs in LATAM report, Christophe says, "Equity isn’t widely understood or practiced outside of the startup ecosystem here. This report is great because it creates awareness among more Brazil employees on the potential value of their stock options."
