Westpac chief economist Kelly Eckhold says the big drop in reported GDP means further cuts to interest rates in 2025. The team are now forecasting the OCR will get down to "a bit closer to 3% than previously expected". #TogetherGreater
About us
We’ve been helping New Zealanders find the right financial solutions to suit their lives since 1861. We first opened back then as The Bank of New South Wales, and then changed our name to Westpac in 1982. Along the way we’ve grown stronger by joining forces with the Commercial Bank of Australia and Trust Bank – to become Westpac New Zealand Limited. We bank all sorts of people and businesses – from young children, to first home-owners through to big corporates and the New Zealand Government. Nearly a quarter of all Kiwis bank with Westpac, so we’ve got great experience and knowledge to draw on when it comes to helping people with their very first bank account, all the way through to their retirement. With more than 200 branches, and nearly 500 ATMs, we’re one of New Zealand’s largest banks. We provide a full range of banking and financial services for personal, business and agribusiness banking. Earlier this year we launched our First Home Sooner campaign, helping aspiring home owners understand the options available to them and helping them into their first homes sooner. We leaned into our greatest asset – our people – and used their expertise and experience to guide thousands of home buyers through a sometimes-daunting process. And here's the results! New parents James and Laura thought they were some way off home ownership but after some expert guidance from Westpac Home Loan expert Jamie Roberts they bought their first home in Auckland’s Te Atatū Peninsula a few months ago. Thank you, James and Laura, for sharing your home buying journey with us. #FirstHomeSooner #TogetherGreater Catherine McGrath Sarah Hearn Helen Ryder Sarah Williams Louisa Golding Gen Pilmore Serena S. Members of our Westpac whānau had the privilege of attending Friday morning’s blessing of Hawaiki Street – a new housing development for Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei whānau. The development consists of 24 one- two- and four-bedroom terraced homes. Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei owns the land on Hawaiki Street in Ōrākei, Tāmaki Makaurau and whānau have been able to purchase homes through long-term leasehold agreements. The home-owners all attended the blessing prior to receiving the keys for their new homes – achieving the elusive just-in-time-for-Christmas move-in date. Westpac NZ has supported whānau in obtaining mortgages through the scheme. Congratulations to everyone involved in this beautiful, architecturally designed development. #TogetherGreater Fonteyn Moses - Te Kani Heiko Jonkers Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Whai Rawa Reuben Tucker Helen Ryder Catherine McGrath Sarah Hearn Sarah Wall Tracey Walker Steve Atkinson Jeremy Seales Joanie Rankin Marc Figgins Geri Fraser

Westpac New Zealand was delighted to host the New Zealand Disability Employers' Network (NZDEN) Hui at our Auckland Takutai office. Members of NZDEN including Westpac New Zealand, Air New Zealand, Vector Limited, Chorus NZ Limited, Spectrum Care, Taikura and many more attended the meeting both in-person and online. It was a great opportunity to connect with access and inclusion experts and to share and learn from each other in this space. During the hui, Westpac presented our accessibility journey with our GM of Product, Sustainability and Marketing Sarah Hearn leading a panel discussion with Jo Dugdale, Tania Reed and Jared Hutcheson to showcase some of our key milestones, including establishing an Employee Action Group, being the first bank to achieve the Accessibility Tick, the first Dementia-friendly bank, being a Hearing Accredited Workplace, and taking part in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower 💜 programme. At the conclusion of the event, Westpac was awarded its fifth-year of the Accessibility Tick Certificate! #Accessibility #TogetherGreater Phil Turner Kelvin Xu Kate Smallwood Stephanie Nicholson Russell Jones (he/him) Michelle Huang Diana Haxton

Westpac economist Satish Ranchhod's Weekly Economic Overview looks ahead to 2025 and a return to "moderate rates of growth" in both the economy and the housing sector 🏡 📈
With interest rates dropping, conditions in New Zealand’s residential and commercial property sectors are set to firm over 2025. However, interest rates are only expected to drop back to around average levels – not the very low rates that we saw in the wake of the pandemic. That means the anticipated recoveries in both economic growth and house prices are likely to be a return to moderate rates of growth, rather than the unsustainably hot rates that we saw through 2021 and 2022. Check out Senior Economist Satish Ranchhod’s video update below. #newzealand #property #housing #interestrates Westpac New Zealand Kelly Eckhold Darren Gibbs Michael Gordon Paul Clark Chelsea Simmons
