What is the Kota Petra Green Technology Park? Currently, Zecon Group owns approximately 3,074 acres of strategic land bank in Kuching, of which 3,000 has been planned for its flagship masterplan – the Kota Petra Green Technology Park (KPGTP). Designed to be a cutting-edge hub for green industries and sustainable development, KPGTP is strategically located next to the Demak Laut Industrial Park and Senari Port, within 7 km of Kuching’s city center. KPGTP's masterplan is aligned with the Sarawak Government’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) and has been endorsed with a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) status, akin to tech parks in West Malaysia, Batam and Singapore. KPGTP will be powered by a 300MW large-scale solar farm with 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), ensuring that all operations align with global sustainability goals, reinforcing Sarawak’s commitment to green energy and sustainable development. There are 6 sites planned for the AI-driven Data Centres, setting the foundation for Sarawak’s position as a key player in the data-driven economy of the future. As a Managed Industrial Park (MIP), KPGTP is fully integrated with green high-technology consisting; Spacetech, Greentech, Smart Manufacturing, Agritech and Biotech, Data Centres, Smart Mining and sustainable township development. Also included in the masterplan are a Global Business Solution Centre, plus a centralised Circular Water Treatment and Waste Management Centre. On 16 October 2024, at the opening ceremony of IDECS 2024 (International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2024) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, Zecon Berhad, together with Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC) and Centre For Technology Excellence Sarawak Sdn Bhd (CENTEXS), signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The signing of the MOU was witnessed by Sarawak's premier, the Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg. Zecon, SDEC and CENTEXS entered the MOU to achieve mutual benefit in the development of KPGTP, of which Zecon is the landowner responsible for the land management and development of KPGTP, including the 300MW large-scale solar farm. SDEC is responsible for accelerating digital technology in the private sector and provides telecommunication services to the green technology park, whereas CENTEXS provides capacity building at KPGTP through industry-based competency training, skill development and developing technology testbeds and technology applications towards commercialisation. Overall, KPGTP is expected to generate approximately RM12 billion in investment value and create 10,000 jobs in its development period, plus a direct annual GDP contribution of at least RM1.7 billion. KPGTP provides significant scalability, seamless connectivity, green energy for long term operations and with the anticipated full approval of the SEZ, an ideal investment destination in Kuching, Sarawak.
