As Malaysia prepares to assume the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, this initiative aligns perfectly with our vision to position ASEAN as a global hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. Malaysia is committed to leveraging our strengths in innovation ecosystems and advancing the goals of the ASEAN Startup Initiative through programs like the National Technology and Innovation Sandbox (NTIS), Malaysia Startup Ecosystem Roadmap (SUPER), and the KL20. The ASEAN Startup Initiative will serve as a catalyst for regional partnerships, providing startups access to funding, market opportunities, and shared resources. By fostering collaboration and innovation across ASEAN, we aim to position our region as a leader in addressing global challenges and driving economic growth. 2 Days of Insightful Conversations at Malaysia Venture Forum 2024 The 2024 Malaysia Venture Forum wrapped up after two incredible days of insightful conversations, inspiring ideas, and actionable strategies for shaping the future of Malaysia’s venture capital (VC) and private equity (PE) ecosystem. Here’s a quick recap of what went down: Diversifying VC Funding: With 63% of VC funding still coming from government-linked sources, the forum highlighted the need for more private investors to inject fresh capital and market-driven insights. 10 Startups Showcasing Innovation: The forum also featured an exhibition where 10 of our own startups showcased their innovative solutions, reflecting the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit driving Malaysia’s ecosystem. Balancing Risks for Growth: VC investments are high-risk, but with setbacks come opportunities to refine strategies, governance, and resilience. Jelawang Capital’s Vision: Through initiatives like the Emerging Managers' Programme (EMP) to groom new fund managers, the Regional Managers' Initiative (RMI) to foster cross-border collaborations, and their role as the secretariat for the Malaysia Venture Capital Roadmap (MVCR), Jelawang Capital is laying the groundwork to position Malaysia as a key VC hub by 2030. MYStartup Startups Make Waves in the Philippines Seven innovative startups, nurtured through our MYStartup Pre-A and Accelerator Programmes, recently completed a market access mission to the Philippines from November 25th to 29th, unlocking regional growth opportunities and forging strategic partnerships. During the trip, our startups engaged with Philippine industry leaders like Angkas, the motorcycle ride-hailing pioneer, and PayMongo, a fintech platform revolutionizing digital payments. These interactions provided valuable insights into scaling businesses in the dynamic Philippine market. The delegation also pitched their solutions to top Philippine venture capitalists, participated in matchmaking sessions with local partners, and attended strategic discussions with government agencies such as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Startups representing Malaysia included: Axtraction AI : Simplifying document extraction with AI-powered automation. MessengerCo : Transforming corporate gifting with generative AI innovation.
