On 5th December 2024, we commemorated #WorldSoilDay, a day dedicated to acknowledging the critical role that healthy soils play in sustaining life on Earth. The theme for this year, “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage”, prompts us to recognise the importance of protecting soil from pollution. Soil serves as fundamental support for food security, biodiversity, climate change mitigation and overall ecosystem health. World Soil Day serves as a call to action for individuals, communities, governments and organisations to collaborate in the essential endeavour of soil protection and restoration. By working together, we can effect significant change. In recognition of this occasion, Bumi Armada partnered with the Department of Agriculture Malaysia to conduct an Urban Farming Workshop. This event featured insights from Ms. Siti Aishah Haji Mahyudin, Assistant Director of the Department of Agriculture Malaysia, alongside Mr. Mohd Zul Izzi Yusoff, Assistant Agricultural Officer. With 36 BAB staff members in attendance, participants engaged in hands-on activities, learning the techniques of planting in small pots and mastering small-space gardening. The workshop aimed to enhance participants' understanding of urban agriculture, providing them with essential knowledge and practical experience. By celebrating World Soil Day through the lens of urban farming, we underscored the significance of soil health, even in densely populated urban environments. Urban farming not only enhances local food production but also empowers communities to understand the vital role that soil plays in sustaining life. Collectively, we inspire a movement towards greener cities and healthier soils, thereby paving the way for a sustainable future. Investing in urban farming is in alignment with the objectives of World Soil Day. Healthy soil is more than just the foundation of life, it is the cornerstone of a sustainable and thriving future. The protection of our soils today will yield substantial benefits for the next generations. We wish to thank all participants for your passions and commitments in making a positive impact! #WorldSoilDay2024 #UrbanFarming #SustainableDevelopment #BumiArmada

World Sustainability Day is an annual event celebrated on 26th October, aimed at raising global awareness and promoting action towards a sustainable future for our planet. It brings together individuals, businesses, organisations and governments to reflect on the urgent need for sustainable practices and to celebrate advancements in environmental conservation, social equity and economic resilience. This day serves as a reminder that sustainability goes beyond environmental concerns; it is a holistic approach that ensures future generations can thrive in a balanced and healthy world. In line with World Sustainability Day, Bumi Armada collaborated with the Global Environment Centre to present an inspiring virtual talk on 24th October 2024. Our esteemed speaker, Mr. Nagarajan Rengasamy from the Global Environment Centre, addressed the topic “Empowering Communities through Corporate and NGO Partnership: Our Roles in Grassroots Mangrove Conservation for Climate Justice and Coastal Resilience.” The event attracted impressive participation from employees around the globe. Aligned with this year's theme, "Leadership for Sustainable Development and Climate Justice," the talk highlighted the collaborative efforts between Bumi Armada, the Global Environment Centre and local communities in mangrove conservation in Malaysia. This event showcased our commitment to mangrove restoration through partnerships with local communities, leveraging corporate resources, NGO expertise and community engagement. Together, we aim to enhance coastal resilience against climate threats, support sustainable livelihoods and socio-economic growth, and promote biodiversity and ecosystem health. Our collaboration emphasises the transformative power of partnership in driving impactful change and building climate justice for vulnerable coastal ecosystems. Together, we are dedicated to creating lasting, positive impacts through strategic initiatives. As we reflect on this inspiring session, let’s reaffirm our commitment to environmental stewardship. By harnessing the strength of our partnerships, we can reshape the future for our planet and its communities. Together, we are not just conserving mangroves; we are investing in a legacy of resilience, equity and hope for generations to come. #WorldSustainabilityDay #ClimateJustice #MangroveConservation #SustainableDevelopment #BAB #GEC

Bumi Armada Berhad's Mangrove Tree Planting Programme: Seeds of Tomorrow In celebration of International Mangrove Day on July 26, Bumi Armada Berhad (BAB), in partnership with the Global Environment Centre and Sahabat Hutan Bakau Kampung Dato' Hormat (SHBKDH), hosted an inspiring Mangrove Tree Planting Programme on July 23, 2024, at Tebuk Mendeleng, Sabak Bernam, Selangor. The event united 65 enthusiastic volunteers, including BAB employees, SHBKDH community members and dedicated GEC officers. Together, we covered 0.25 hectares of degraded mangrove area with 500 mangrove trees, including Rhizophora apiculata (bakau minyak) and Rhizophora mucronata (bakau kurap). This initiative is part of the Greening Malaysia Programme's '100 Million Tree-Planting Campaign,' which aims to restore our precious ecosystems and foster biodiversity. Mangroves are vital for coastal protection, offering natural barriers against shoreline erosion, coastal flooding and the impacts of strong winds and waves. Beyond their protective role, mangroves are incredible carbon sinks, playing a crucial part in our fight against climate change. Through this programme, we not only worked to restore the tidal ecosystem and the Sabak Bernam riverine, but also raised awareness about the invaluable benefits of mangroves. Our efforts directly support several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 13 (Climate Action) through enhanced carbon sequestration and climate resilience, SDG 14 (Life Below Water) by supporting marine life and biodiversity and SDG 15 (Life on Land) through the protection and restoration of natural habitats. Additionally, by improving local ecosystems, we contribute to SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), supporting livelihoods and food security in nearby communities. This initiative reflects our commitment to environmental stewardship and our belief in the power of community action to drive sustainable change. Together, we are planting seeds for a sustainable future, making a meaningful impact on our planet and inspiring others to join us on this crucial journey. #BumiArmada #MangroveRestoration #Sustainability #ClimateAction #SDGs #CommunityEngagement #GreeningMalaysia #BiodiversityConservation #InternationalMangroveDay
