Bioeconomy Corporation, in collaboration with Pertubuhan Ibu Tunggal Kebangsaan Tanjong Malim Malaysia (PITKM), successfully launched the Kembara Komuniti Programme: "Kecilkan Jejak, Besarkan Impak" in Tanjung Malim, Perak. This initiative, themed "Tradition and Innovation Unite for Community Benefits," trained 35 single mothers in producing nutritious food, specifically yogurt and kimchi. Puan Nora Mohamed, Senior Vice President of Bioeconomy Corporation’s Industry Support Division of Bioeconomy Corporation, emphasised the programme's goal of empowering single mothers through science-based learning and fermentation technology. This aligns with the National Biotechnology Policy 2.0 and the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation's vision to promote technology adoption and foster innovation. Strategic partnerships with Bio Tree Biotechnology Sdn Bhd and Alpro Pharmacy enhanced the programme through the provision of training and free health screenings, respectively. By equipping participants with the essential skills, this programme aims to improve their income and quality of life. The programme also offered entrepreneurship exposure to help participants create sustainable income opportunities while addressing challenges such as access to training and food safety practices. The BioAcademy team, led by En. Fadzrin Aziz, Vice President of Strategic Ventures, embarked on an inspiring mission to nurture young scientific minds through the SciensationBIO: Nurturing 100 Young Scientists programme. Held under the STI 100³ initiative, this inspiring two-day, one-night event took place on 18-19 December 2024 at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in Tanjung Malim, Perak, with support from UPSI’s Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), and Kolej Ungku Omar, UPSI. The programme brought together 100 secondary schools, aged 13 – 16, from 10 schools across Perak and Selangor. Representing a rich mix of ethnicities, including Orang Asli, Malay, Indian, and Chinese communities, these young learners were guided by 10 passionate FSM lecturers. The mentors inspired curiosity and critical thinking, inculcating a lifelong appreciation for science and innovation. Participants engaged in six activities that combined education, creativity, and sustainability: 🌍 EM Mudball Creation – Introduction to environmental science. ♻️ Waste Novation – Developing resourcefulness with upcycled creations. 🎨 pH Painting – Expressing chemical reactions through art. 🔭 DIY Telescopes – Hands-on exploration of astronomy. 🌳 Forest Lab – Immersive learning in nature. 🎥 TikTok Challenge: I’m the Future Scientist – Merging science and social media creativity. Each activity also incorporated Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles to inspire holistic learning. The programme concluded with an official closing ceremony graced by Prof. Ts. Dr. Suriani Abu Bakar, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, UPSI. Distinguished guests included Prof. Madya ChM. Dr. Noorshida binti Mohd Ali, Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation, FSM, UPSI; Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Nizam bin Hj Nasrifan, Principal of Kolej Ungku Omar, UPSI; and En. Roslah bin Sariyon, Senior Assistant Director of Mathematics and Science, Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Perak. On 5 November 2024, the BioAcademy team was invited by the Careers Advisory Service of the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) to the 8th Resume Competition Award Ceremony.
