Terre des hommes is currently participating in the Global Conference on Justice for Children Deprived of Liberty as a member of the Steering Committee of the event. At the conference, Yann Colliou, Head of the Access to Justice for Children programme at Tdh and co-chair of the NGO Panel on Children Deprived of Liberty, highlighted contemporary challenges and shared practical solutions to enhance non-custodial measures for children deprived of liberty, showcasing examples of Tdh's work in different countries. Every year, millions of children around the world are deprived of their liberty. This is not only a grave violation of their rights but also one of the most widespread forms of violence against children. We believe that depriving children of liberty must end now. Together with our partners, we remain committed to supporting all the rights of children deprived of their liberty. 🔗 More about the conference: https://lnkd.in/dTnFQzMA #ChildRights #ChildJustice DCI UNICEF Global Campus of Human Rights, UN Human Rights Office "Voices from the Ground" - A Crowdsource Project, Institute for Inspiring Children's Futures, Child Rights Connect OMCT- World Organisation Against Torture, Child Rights International Network - CRIN Loterie Romande, BICE (Bureau International Catholique de l'Enfance), Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International

⚖️ Last month, Terre des hommes, together with key partners, organised the Latin America Regional Pre-Congress on Justice for Children, held on November 12-13 in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. Focusing on "Accelerating progress in child justice systems: Contemporary approaches to restorative responses and strategies for justice and peace in contexts of violence, conflict, and insecurity," the event brought together regional and national professionals committed to advancing child-centered justice. Through dynamic discussions, expert panels, and collaborative workshops, participants explored restorative justice frameworks, peace and justice strategies, and child-centered solutions to violence and insecurity. The event culminated in the reading and signing of the 2024 Cartagena Declaration – Towards Child-Centered Justice in Latin America. 🪨 This Regional Pre-Congress is a pivotal milestone leading up to the 5th World Congress on Justice with Children, set to take place in June 2025 in Madrid, Spain. Together, we are ensuring that the voices of children and adolescents are heard, advocating for a future where their rights are fully recognised and protected. In 2013, Aliou left Guinea, hoping to find better opportunities. His journey was cut short when he was sent back, losing everything he had saved for the crossing. But Aliou didn’t give up. With support from our projects, he rebuilt his life in Guinea. He received training as a glazier 🪟 and funding to start his own window shop. 👨🏽🏫 Today, Aliou is not only a successful entrepreneur but also a mentor to others in his community, including returning migrants. “I have 8 young people learning from me, 6 of whom are returning migrants. I hope this will help them find their way.” Aliou’s story is a powerful reminder that opportunities and support can change lives. 💎 📹 Watch his journey in this video. https://lnkd.in/e4sVthGN Tdh supports young people in migration situations by helping them to develop and structure their life project, and by accompanying them in putting it into practice. In the EJM project, we work in partnership with Helvetas and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, with financial support from Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. #WorldMigrantsDay #Terredeshommes

Terre des Hommes International Federation's 2023 annual report is out: A powerful story of impact and hope that you can discover here 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/euBZwbQC
📢 “I now have the confidence that I did not have before. Our community’s children do not deserve to go through exploitation. I will do my best to spread awareness and ensure that my community is protected”, said Amrita, a teenage girl supported through Terre des Homme’s programmes in 2023. 🚀 In a year marked by unprecedented global challenges, Terre des Hommes’ 2023 Annual Report tells a powerful story of resilience, impact, and unwavering commitment in its support of almost 7 million children, young people and their communities across 68 countries. 🚨 We've been at the forefront of creating meaningful change: from combating the climate crisis to protecting children from online abuse, supporting children on the move and ensuring child participation in critical global processes. 💪🏽 Our most inspiring achievement? Enabling over 16,000 children from 121 countries to contribute to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child's groundbreaking General Comment 26 on environmental rights - the most inclusive child participation process in UN history. In Guinea, a digital revolution is changing the face of healthcare for mothers and children. At the Poudrière health center, tablets provided by Terre des hommes are replacing paper records, enabling midwives like Marguerite Yama Camara to save time and provide better care: "Paper can get damaged or lost. Now I can connect anywhere. It's really changing the way I work, and I feel I've already progressed enormously professionally, which makes me very proud." For mothers like Aïssatou, the impact is life-changing: "Now I’m more experienced. I know I should never sleep without a mosquito net again. I recommend other pregnant women to come for consultations for advice on nutrition, malaria prevention, and birth planning." Beyond healthcare, this initiative empowers women, combats gender-based violence, and promotes education to prevent early marriage.
