To prevent, slow, and stop diseases, we need: 🌐 Multisectoral collaboration 💼 Political commitment 💪 Prioritization of health as an investment, not a cost. This #UHCDay, Michael Boyd, IFPMA Council Chair and Gilead Sciences Senior Vice President, Government Affairs and Policy, takes the opportunity to reflect on the importance of health for all as a pillar of societal prosperity and advancement. The private sector – and the innovative pharmaceutical industry in particular – is committed to doing its part to advance #UniversalHealthCoverage. Read his blog: ⤵️ https://ifpma.info/49sVhiB

For this #UHCDay, IFPMA Director General David Reddy penned an op-ed for Resolve Global Health, reflecting on how health promotion and prevention are key 🔑 to advancing #UniversalHealthCoverage and delivering a healthier future for everyone, everywhere. ❗ With five years left until 2030, the world is not on track to achieve UHC and the related Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). Countries are grappling with humanitarian crises, recession, climate change, ageing populations, health worker shortages, and more – all of which play into the social, environmental, and economic determinants of health. 🤝However, together, we can embrace a prevention-first mindset to make #UHC a reality and save lives. #Vaccines are our greatest defense in public health. Over the past five decades, vaccines have saved at least 154 million lives, according to the World Health Organization. Diseases like smallpox have been eradicated, and polio is on the brink of elimination, thanks to widespread immunization efforts. 💡 It is crucial that vaccine technology can keep up with challenges posed by an ageing population, climate change, as well as current and emerging infectious diseases. Pharmaceutical companies are committed to advancing the development of next-generation vaccines. Learn more about this commitment in the latest article by Paula Barbosa, IFPMA Associate Director of Vaccines Policy, published as part of part of Mediaplanet "Future of Healthcare" campaign. ➡️ Read more https://lnkd.in/d_zmDPCJ #futureofhealthcarecampaign2024

2024 has been another incredible year for medical innovation. We have seen remarkable breakthroughs, such as: ✨ The first CRISPR technologies are now available to patients. 🧠 Progress has been made in treatments for Alzheimer’s disease. 🌍 Malaria vaccines are being rolled out in the world’s hardest-hit regions. These breakthroughs - and so many others - are transforming lives around the world, while also helping healthcare systems tackle challenges like ageing populations, chronic diseases, and emerging health threats. 💊 In the past 20 years, 942 novel active substances (NASs) have launched globally, addressing diseases like cancer, cardiovascular conditions, neurological disorders, and infectious diseases. 🔬 Today, there are over 12,700 medicines at different phases of clinical development, supported by the pharmaceutical industry, biotechs, and academia. However, the continued translation of scientific progress into next-generation medicines and vaccines is not guaranteed. It relies on systems that encourage investment and collaboration -without which innovation would not happen. ⚙️ ➡️ Read more on what’s needed to sustain innovation for the future in David Reddy’s latest article: https://ifpma.info/3ZC1u8O #AlwaysInnovating
