This initiative is particularly significant given 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿’𝘀 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝟮.𝟯𝟲 𝘁𝗖𝗢₂ 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹, higher than the 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝟭.𝟵 𝘁𝗖𝗢₂/𝘁𝗰𝘀. India's heavy reliance on coal and low scrap utilization (9–13% compared to global averages of 20–30%) contributes to this challenge. Key decarbonization pathways include transitioning to green hydrogen, capable of reducing emissions to 0.75 tCO₂/tfs by 2030, integrating wind-solar hybrid renewable energy, adopting energy-efficient technologies, and utilizing carbon capture and storage (CCUS). The transition to green steel faces challenges. Producing green hydrogen at economically viable prices and establishing renewable energy infrastructure to support the sector are imperative. This week Jonas Moberg, CEO of the Green Hydrogen Organisation (GH2), recently inspired students at the Geneva Graduate Institute during the Executive Certificate in the Nature-Positive Economy module. He highlighted the transformative potential of green hydrogen as a cornerstone of a sustainable future. Key insights included: 🔹 How green hydrogen and e-fuels can power critical industries, from renewable energy to sustainable shipping. 🔹 The role of major players like China, India, the US, and the EU in advancing green hydrogen adoption. 🔹 The importance of vertical integration in scaling renewable energy and green hydrogen projects. 🔹 Projections for shipping, with green ammonia expected to dominate (240 of 300 million tonnes by 2040). Education is pivotal in equipping individuals with the skills needed to thrive in a sustainable economy, enabling careers in renewable energy, smart agriculture, and resource-efficient urban design. Most importantly, education fosters a shift in how we act and think—strengthening our collective responsibility to build a greener future. #GreenHydrogen #Sustainability Geneva Graduate Institute | Executive Education Gilles Carbonnier Marie Laure SALLES Rifan Bachtiar | Mickey Langley | Joe Williams | Jonas Moberg | Simran SINHA | Sam Bartlett | Vanina Morrison

Great to see GH2 member Fortescue driving progress on green hydrogen in Norway! Green hydrogen and ammonia are critical solutions for decarbonising hard-to-electrify sectors, and it’s inspiring to see Fortescue’s commitment to building Europe’s first large-scale green ammonia plant. Initiatives like the Holmaneset project not only accelerate the green shift but also create jobs, new value chains, and transformative opportunities for global emissions reduction. 🚀🌍
