  • 🆘️ “When a woman is trapped in an abusive situation, she needs help so she can crawl out of it" - Dike Chukwumerije 🎙Let's throw it back to the Womanity Index launch where Dike Chukwumerije delivered a thought-provoking spoken word performance that captured the struggles faced by women and girls in a patriarchal world. Through his powerful presentation, Dike explored themes like sexual harassment, early marriage, and physical violence—highlighting the dangers that women endure in a society where discrimination is often normalized. ❗️He concluded with a compelling call to action, reminding every stakeholder and institution of the age-long proverbial adage: It takes a village to raise a child. He urged us to create a village that is not only nurturing but also safe—a village that ensures the safety of every woman. • "Any budget that involves women and girls must be active; not just inclusive and silent." (Commissioner for Women Affairs, Gombe State) The Invictus Africa Team (iTeam) led an advocacy visit to Gombe State to officially present the Gender Responsive Education Budgeting (GREB) practical guide that we developed and launched in September 2024. Led by Invictus Africa's Executive Director, Bukky Shonibare, the iTeam visited key ministries whose work is important to the access, retention, and completion of basic education for girls and boys in the state - that is, Ministries of Education, Health, Women Affairs and Social Development, and Budget and Economic Planning. Ms. Shonibare took the Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and relevant Directors in each Ministry through the budget framework and sample budget in the practical guide, calling their attention to the lines that are gender responsive which they could either adopt or adapt to their context. According to her, when budgets are gender-responsive, it results in improving the rate of access, retention, and completion of basic education for girls and boys in the state. In addition, Ms. Shonibare expressed Invictus Africa's willingness to provide technical assistance where it is needed. #GenderResponsiveEducationBudgeting #Forgirlsandboys

  • 📢 The Womanity Index conversation continues... Our Executive Director, Bukky Shonibare, recently appeared on ARISE TV to discuss key insights from this year’s Womanity Index report. 📌 Four notable findings stood out: 1️⃣ Many Nigerians are unaware of the VAPP Act and other GBV-related laws in their states—or how to use them. 2️⃣ The home is the top location where GBV incidents occur. 3️⃣ Survivors often seek help from family and friends. 4️⃣ Trust plays a significant role in deciding where people seek help. The Womanity Index provides a comprehensive picture of GBV across states, helping stakeholders understand that realities vary and require tailored solutions. #WomanityIndex2024 #WI24 #16daysofactivismagainstgenderbasedviolence #16daysofaction
