Has been a busy month of October with many insightful business trips in Europe and China. It's been a busy month with little time to post on here. The month started in Porto at SMF Fest with uncommon conferences and ship.energy. It was an intense couple of days where I captured no less than sixteen group discussions on all things around the subject of Sustainable Marine Fuel. Here are just a few of the discussions that I captured. I love conferences like this, it was both fascinating and extremely educational for me. At #SMFFest24, we played a thought-provoking game where each roll of the dice determined our fuel, ship type, and viability factors. This mirrors the maritime industry's journey towards a multifuel future, where choices about alternative fuels like methane, ammonia, methanol, or hydrogen lead to diverse outcomes. While there are various factors to consider, our collective engagement will shape these choices as we advocate for the safe, responsible, and sustainable use of these fuels. I had the opportunity to discuss with stakeholders the importance of workforce involvement—at sea, in the office, and in ports. We must ask: Are we doing enough? How can we do more? 🤔 Encouraging in-depth discussions with end users is essential to understanding their needs. Engaging with our workforce and seafarers is vital. Together, we can turn these choices into strategic advancements for a sustainable maritime future. What are your thoughts on engaging the workforce in the transition to alternative fuels? I was invited by uncommon conferences to host discussion groups on Ports’ transition towards a multi fuel context, which happens to be my scope of work at North Sea Port. I loved every bit of this fest! ✨The concept? You simply come as you are, no suits & ties. No death by powerpoint here, just honest and in depth discussions on how we can move the needle on the development of Sustainable Marine Fuels. Such a refreshing approach to bring a group of experts, that represent all stakeholders in the value chain together, to exhange knowledge and to decide on pathways per fuel.
