The Waterfront Brisbane team literally wrapped up a busy year with a festive gift wrapping session in support of the Children's Hospital Foundation. Much like the Waterfront Brisbane development, our gift-wrapping skills are still under construction — but we made up for it with enthusiasm and plenty of sticky tape. A big thank you to Dexus’s Indooroopilly Shopping Centre for hosting this important volunteering event! The Waterfront Brisbane team wishes you a happy and safe festive season! Thank you to our LinkedIn community for your support and engagement in 2024. We look forward to sharing exciting project updates, milestones and news with you in 2025. Wonderful to be on site at Waterfront Brisbane with some of the team. The scale of the development and the extent of engineering solutions required to build on the river is truly extraordinary. Thank you to Dexus and John Holland for your time on the tour.

We're excited for Waterfront Brisbane's newest restaurant, The Fifty Six, to open in February 2025. Completing DAP&Co's multi-level dining, drinks and events destination at Naldham House, The Fifty Six will be situated on the top floor and will bring a new era in Cantonese cuisine.
Exclusive: A gun chef will lean into traditional techniques, such as making his own oyster sauce. There will also be a 200-bottle wine list that includes Chinese vino. Read more from Matt Shea here: https://shorturl.at/pOfi7 Photo: Markus Ravik Gerald Ong Andrew Baturo

A remarkable piece of maritime history was unearthed at Waterfront Brisbane earlier this year — 80 timber piles dating back to the 1860s-1880s. These heritage piles have undergone DNA testing by local heritage consultants, Australian Heritage Specialists Pty Ltd, and detailed microscopic analysis by Wood Research and Development to identify the timber species as Grey Ironbark (Eucalyptus paniculata). Renowned for its strength and durability, Grey Ironbark was likely chosen over 150 years ago for its natural resistance to marine borers, making it an ideal material for wharf construction. Preserved beneath the riverbed for over a century, many of these piles were discovered with their bark and original copper sheeting still intact. The use of copper is believed to have enhanced resistance to marine borers — a fascinating glimpse into the practical ingenuity of the era. These piles originally serviced the heritage-listed Naldham House and the surrounding trading docks and wharves. Given that few structures from this period remain, this discovery offers a rare and tangible link to Brisbane’s maritime past. Currently, the piles are drying at One Eagle’s outdoor space. Next year, they will be proudly displayed as a public art exhibit inside One Eagle’s lobby, allowing Dexus’s customers and visitors to connect with this extraordinary chapter of local history.

Over 85% of the piles for the new Waterfront Brisbane Riverwalk have now been installed! To date, 99 of the 116 piles have been driven into the Brisbane River, each averaging 28-metres long and extending 18 metres into the water and riverbed. With diameters ranging from 750mm to 1050mm, these piles are driven into bedrock until they are secure enough to support the required 63-tonne load. The Riverwalk structure is formed by 101 precast beams and 272 precast planks, and topped with 4,245m² of concrete to create a smooth and durable surface for pedestrians, cyclists and commuters alike. The new 250-metre stretch of Riverwalk will be a significant upgrade, offering a promenade that spans at least six metres wide and up to 14 metres in certain sections. This expansive space will comfortably accommodate walkers, runners, cyclists, scooters and commuters, creating a more accessible and enjoyable riverfront experience. Set for completion in late January 2026, the Riverwalk will enhance connectivity and redefine how people engage with Brisbane's iconic riverfront. Thank you Australian Heritage Specialists Pty Ltd for bringing your expertise to the restoration of Naldham House.
Our Senior Heritage Consultant and Team Leader, Julia Pritchard, recently starred in a walk-through tour of the beautifully restored Naldham House in Brisbane's CBD. Hospitality group DAP & Co, alongside developer Dexus, worked with AHS to breathe new life into this 150-year-old Brisbane icon while retaining various heritage elements. This is a fantastic example of adaptive reuse, but some of the fascinating heritage items are hidden away...so join us for a tour! We’re looking forward to the opening of the Kangaroo Point Bridge on Sunday 15 December. This new piece of infrastructure is expected to remove 84,000 cars from Brisbane’s roads each year, with over 6,000 people anticipated to use the bridge daily. The new pedestrian bridge will also enhance connectivity to Waterfront Brisbane, linking seamlessly with our Riverwalk, which spans a minimum of six-metres wide along the 250-metre stretch fronting the precinct. Scheduled to open in January 2026, the Riverwalk aligns with Brisbane City Council’s City Reach Waterfront Master Plan. Together with the Kangaroo Point Bridge, it will improve accessibility and elevate the city’s riverfront experience with enhanced connectivity.

Construction at Waterfront Brisbane is currently focused on delivering the core foundations that will support the future tower. These foundations are meticulously engineered to handle immense loads, extending as far as 25-metres deep, 1-metre wide, and spanning a total perimeter of 330 metres. Over 4,000 tonnes of steel reinforcement and 13,500m³ of concrete will form the foundations, designed to support the development’s final weight of approximately 370 kilotonnes - equivalent to around 900 fully loaded Boeing 747s! This impressive building load underscores the vital role of Waterfront Brisbane’s engineering and construction teams and highlights the importance of the time spent on ground works to date. Thank you to our delivery partner, John Holland, as well as our many talented consultants and subcontractors who are helping us to bring Waterfront Brisbane to life.
