We’re excited to take another step in our commitment to reconciliation with First Nations people by co-signing the Geelong Aboriginal Employment Taskforce (GAET) Statement of Commitment. TAC CEO Tracey Slatter recently joined other employers on the taskforce to drive change for First Nations people by committing to improve and increase career development and options. In signing the statement, members of the taskforce committed to walking alongside First Nations communities to improve workplace cultural safety, cultural capability and workplace reform by working collaboratively with all levels of government and businesses operating on Wadawurrung Country. Formed in 2021, GAET is a collective of Geelong based businesses, corporations, government agencies and First Nations leaders. The TAC is committed to advancing reconciliation at the TAC by developing a culturally safe organisation and advancing First Nations employment opportunities. Our Restorative Justice Program, launched in August in partnership with RMIT Centre for Innovative Justice Open Circle, has seen a positive response from TAC clients as they heal and recover following road trauma. The program supports clients' outcomes by offering new ways to address their justice needs after a transport accident. Restorative Justice is a non-legal process that recognises the impact of road trauma and helps repair the emotional and psychological harm caused, regardless of who was at fault.   If you are a provider or a TAC client, please register your interest on the TAC website here https://lnkd.in/gwTGJcGQ. Funding from the latest round of the TAC small grants program have been announced with TAC representatives and Minister for TAC and Worksafe Danny Pearson meeting with one of the three recipients, hospitality social enterprise program, All Things Equal. The TAC Small Grants Program, which supports severely injured Victorians and people with a disability, offers up to $50,000 to innovative community-based projects that positively impact the lives of TAC clients and Victorians with a disability. Other recipients were: - Back to Back Theatre for the short film, Cardboard that uses the skills of people with a disability through a series of creative workshops. - the Sonicrats, for accessible and innovative music-making workshops enabling creative expression for people with a disability, regardless of physical limitations. Congratulations to Darren Laidlaw, our latest Committee for Geelong Leaders for Geelong graduate. Now in its 18th year, the TAC has been a long-time corporate partner of the initiative, aimed at developing the region’s future leaders.    “The program was such an incredible experience, and I am very grateful to have been provided the opportunity to dedicate this time to my professional development,” said Darren    “We were blessed to have so many inspirational people present their story and leadership journey throughout the year. Thanks to our partnership with the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC), the video below featuring Greater Shepparton City Council and Alpine Shire Council staff shows the important role visitor centres play in educating road users on the risks of drowsy driving.   Our popular Pause Stop program was introduced to VTIC centres in 2023 with a network of permanent sites set up across Victoria. With research showing fatigue is a major contributing factor to road trauma in Victoria, the TAC’s partnership with VTIC is an important platform to engage with people travelling throughout the state. ‘If you think e-scooters are a toy, think again’ is a new TAC campaign highlighting the dangers of illegal e-scooter use. Made with the Department of Transport and Planning and backed by research, the campaign shows how many Victorians see e-scooters as toys, not realising they face severe consequences if they don’t use them safely and follow the rules. Research also found many people didn’t understand the laws relating to e-scooter use. This campaign follows the introduction of tough new laws targeting dangerous riding behaviour. This includes higher penalties for riding without a helmet, drink riding, riding on a footpath and carrying passengers. “It is concerning that research shows that many Victorians see e-scooters are toys and are unaware of the laws and penalties – this campaign aims to tackle both of these issues,” said TAC CEO Tracey Slatter.  “We are asking all Victorians to do the right thing and stay safe every time they ride an e-scooter – wear a helmet, don’t carry a passenger, stay off the footpath and don’t ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol.” The new campaign is now live until the end of January. In celebration of International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPWD), we’re excited to share progress on a refresh of our Access and Inclusion Plan.   Throughout September and October, we held focus groups with employees giving us valuable insights into advancing a safe, accessible and inclusive environment at the TAC. An innovative TAC project, aimed at supporting clients with persistent pain, has been recognised at a recent international conference in Amsterdam. An abstract submission of our Enhanced Recovery Program (ERP) was showcased at the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) conference.   Piloted between July 2023 and April this year in partnership with digital health company The Clinician, the ERP demonstrates our commitment to working in partnership with providers to improve outcomes for clients through Value Based Health Care (VBHC) models of care.    Around 80 clients and nine physiotherapists co-designed, collaborated and participated as part of the pilot, with their expertise and experience providing valuable insights into the lasting impacts of trauma-related pain for clients and the implications for their treating physiotherapists.    “The Enhanced Recovery Program provided an innovative way for the TAC and physiotherapists to work together, with both clients and providers reporting positive experiences,” said the TAC's Tegan Kohler. “To have the findings shown to VBHC practitioners from around the world at the ICHOM conference is an honour and aligning to our strategy to continually improve our service and support the best outcomes for our clients." Thanks to the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) for hosting the recent end of year Victorian branch breakfast, which featured keynote speaker Ebonie Rio. Ebonie presented on tendinopathy outlining four types of tendon injury, explaining how they relate to diagnosis and management as well as helpful tips for education. This was followed by a panel discussion which also featured Dr Liam West and AFL - Australian Football League Women's star Steph Chiocci.
