At TPG Telecom, building meaningful relationships with First Nations peoples and supporting vibrant, connected communities is important to our business and underpins our path towards reconciliation. We believe that reconciliation starts with increasing our awareness and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and achievements. A key focus of our reconciliation strategy is strengthening cultural awareness across our organisation. That’s why we’ve partnered with Evolve Communities. Led by Bardi Elder Aunty Munya Andrews and dedicated Indigenous ally Carla Rogers, Evolve Communities is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander majority-owned business and Australia's trusted provider of Cultural Awareness Training and Allyship Accreditation. Designed by Evolve, our new 7 Steps to Practical Reconciliation learning module aims to educate and upskill our people’s cultural knowledge and ensure they have the skills to drive culturally safe environments and respectful relationships with First Nations peoples, customers, businesses and communities. Our partnership with Evolve is underpinned by TPG Telecom’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Principles centred on meaningful engagement, accountability and respect, community empowerment and advocacy. Yesterday, as the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence began, we at Telco Together Foundation hosted a pivotal CEO Roundtable, bringing together leaders from across Australia’s telecommunications sector. CEOs from Telstra, TPG Telecom, Optus, Aussie Broadband, Superloop, and senior executives from More, Tangerine, Uniti Group Pty Ltd, and Vocus Group came together to address the growing misuse of technology as a tool for abuse. This Roundtable marked an important milestone—a chance to reflect on five years of collaborative progress and the launch of our Consumer Tech Abuse Campaign in collaboration with eSafety Commissioner and our members. We are proud of the substantial achievements made over the last five-year journey, including: - The DFV Pledge, signed by 12 telco CEOs, which has driven proactive and measurable actions across the sector. - The creation of the DFV Action Framework, embedding best practices into policies, training, and support services. - The publication of annual DFV Action Plan Reports from 11 companies, demonstrating ongoing transparency and commitment to better supporting victims and survivors of DFV. The upcoming Consumer Tech Abuse Campaign, launching December 3, 2024, which will help educate and empower Australians to recognise and address tech-based coercive control. The Roundtable discussions underscored the unique responsibility we hold as an industry—accessing nearly every household and business in the country, we have the power to create meaningful, widespread change. As Kristy Kelly, Telco Together Foundation CEO, stated: "Our focus is twofold: minimising the harmful use of technology and maximising its potential to empower and protect. Yesterday’s Roundtable reaffirmed our collective commitment to driving measurable, long-term impact." "At Telco Together Foundation, we are deeply committed to uniting the telecommunications industry to tackle some of Australia’s most pressing social challenges. Together with our industry members, we’ve developed initiatives including the Telco DFV Industry Pledge and the DFV Action Framework. This framework provides telcos, regardless of size or type, with a pathway to better support DFV victims and survivors." – Renee Bowker, Executive Director, Telco Together Foundation. The conversations held yesterday have reinforced our shared commitment to making technology a force for good—one that connects, empowers, and protects. While we have made significant strides, we also acknowledge the ongoing need to stay ahead of the challenges posed by tech abuse. We are committed to continuing our work, amplifying awareness, strengthening protections, and ensuring safer communities for all Australians. #16DaysOfActivism #TechAbuse #SocialImpact #DFV #Leadership

Last Monday, 25th November, marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the start of the 16 Days of Activism, and this year, we have joined forces with Australian telcos and e-Safety via the Telco Together Foundation to raise awareness on technology-facilitated abuse. Technology can be a lifeline for victims and survivors of Domestic and Family Violence (DFV), but it’s also almost always used as a tool of abuse. Telecommunications are commonly exploited by perpetrators to make unwanted contact or control victims, making it essential for telco service providers to provide effective support. Last week at the Telco Together Foundation’s CEO Roundtable event, our CEO and Managing Director Iñaki Berroeta joined the e-Safety Commissioner and other senior Australian telco leaders to discuss the industry’s progress and identify opportunities to address the growing misuse of technology as an abusive tool in DFV cases. In collaboration with Telco Together Foundation, we are proud to be united in our commitment to combatting tech abuse and its devastating impact on those experiencing DFV. We have signed the Telco Industry Domestic and Family Violence Pledge and developed a DFV Action Plan to guide our efforts.
