🌟 Celebrating 125 Years of Mission to Seafarers Geelong! 🌟 Ports Victoria is proud to commemorate a remarkable milestone – 125 years of dedication and service by Mission to Seafarers Geelong. Since 1899, this incredible organization has been a beacon of hope, support, and community for seafarers visiting Geelong from around the globe. A special tribute goes to Reverend Noah Park, who has devoted 25 years to Mission to Seafarers Geelong and an impressive 35 years to the Mission to Seafarers Australia overall. As we celebrate this historic anniversary, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the volunteers, staff, and supporters who have contributed to this legacy of compassion and care. Ports Victoria is delighted to welcome our newest on water Transport Safety Officer, Mark Hurwood to the team! After a stellar career 41-year career with Victoria Police – and 32 of those years spent policing Victoria’s waters – Mark brings a wealth of safety experience and knowledge to his new role. “It’s an incredibly important message that we need to share with our recreational boat users and everyone who enjoys our port waters, to literally ‘Keep Clear of Big Ships’,” says Mark. “I’ve seen it time and time again when novice boaties really don’t appreciate just how big these vessels are, and how difficult they are to manoeuvre if they’re forced to respond to someone who might have anchored in a channel for a bit of fishing.” “I’ve heard it said that one of these ships has the equivalent force of 117,000 charging rhinos, so they are definitely not to be taken lightly!” Having just started in the role, Mark says he’s really looking forward to doing his part to support and educate all port users, with everyone’s safety as his highest priority. “I’m really thrilled to be out there on the water again and doing what I know best to keep everyone safe. It’s a terrifically rewarding job.” #portsvictoriapeople #keepclearofbigships #maritimesafety
