Today we launch the STOP! Harassment & Bullying Survey. This is at the 'tough' end of what we do here at Parlour – and is incredibly important. The survey responds to the urgent need to understand the prevalence, extent and impact of harassment and bullying in the Australian built environment professions. It will collect robust data, identify patterns and understand the extent of the challenge. The survey will provide a foundation and catalyst for concerted, collective action. Please take the survey and share news of it with colleagues and friends. The survey is open to everyone active in architecture and the built environment professions, and those who have been in the past. You will be asked to provide insight and feedback on the topics through a series of questions. You can provide as much detail as you are comfortable with, and answer the questions most relevant to you. The survey is anonymous and all responses will be treated with strict confidentiality This survey is being conducted by Dr Gill Matthewson of Monash University and Parlour and has ethics approval from Monash University. The survey went through an extensive development process, and we thank all those who contributed. The survey primary supporters are the Australian Institute of Architects and ArchiTeam Cooperative Ltd . The survey is also supported by the Association of Consulting Architects, the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) and the Planning Institute of Australia. There is a lot more information on the website, including resources and suggestions about preparing to take the survey. https://lnkd.in/g6NZ3WQn

𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗽s As we prepare for 2025, the Champions of Change Coalition is sharing resources to help leaders drive progress on gender equality in the year ahead. 💼𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 #𝟭: 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘗𝘢𝘺 𝘎𝘢𝘱𝘴: 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 Gender pay gaps reflect pay equality, as well as how successful (or not) organisations, sectors and nations are at attracting, retaining and promoting women equally at all levels, including to jobs and roles that have higher pay, higher profile, and higher economic value. By evaluating gender pay gaps, we gain insights into potential systemic issues related to gender equality in society and the workplace. Our resource 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘗𝘢𝘺 𝘎𝘢𝘱𝘴: 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 is a framework and guide for understanding the drivers of gender pay gaps and the high-impact actions that can be taken at organisation, sector, and national levels to close them. This is a great time to pause and consider the steps we can take to lead with purpose in the new year. By building workplaces of care, respect, and fairness, we can set the foundation for a more equitable 2025. 💻 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄: https://lnkd.in/gG9PFsGj Keep an eye out for more resources in the coming days. #Leadership #GenderPayGap #DiversityAndInclusion #GenderEquality #ChampionsOfChangeCoalition #HolidayReading

Thanks Tanya Golitschenko! It is a beautiful, generous letter full of lessons learned and advice for others. Well worth a read!!!
We are delighted to share a new Letter to my younger self today – an open, generous and heartfelt letter by Tanya Golitschenko. Ambition, determination, hard work and careful planning have always been defining strengths for Tanya. However, in her letter, she advises her younger self to slow down, stop rushing and to remember that when life throws big challenges your way, it’s friends, family and close colleagues who can be your greatest source of strength. The big takeaways? Don’t rush. Enjoy the work but remember to stop, rest and recuperate. Don’t take your health for granted. Ask for help and lean on others. Surround yourself with good people – people who cheer you on, lift you up and help you grow. As we approach the final stretch of a very busy year, this is timely, fantastic, big-hearted advice. Thanks Tanya!! 👏 👏 Slide for quotes, but head to the website to read the full letter – https://lnkd.in/gJcPizEU. It’s a gem! #lettertomyyoungerself #womeninarchitecture #careeradvice #overcomingadversity

We have a new guest host over on Instagram this week – Melanie Louterbach. Melanie is a landscape architect, geologist and scholar, working at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in Boston as the 2024–2025 Irving Fellow in Material Investigations. Melanie writes: ‘My research integrates earth sciences + design practice to explore geology as a source of inspiration for designers... Let’s talk about rocks, shall we? Because every pebble has a story waiting to be told.” Follow along on Instagram this week – https://lnkd.in/gZ2EZZFu

Thanks to a wonderful week of guest hosting Development Victoria and Emilia Firus. We value your contribution!
Last week on Instagram, Assistant Project Manager Emilia Firus led an important conversation on gender equity, her experience as a registered architect, and what we’re doing as an organisation to create positive change in the building industry. Click through to see a summary of what we shared, or see the full conversation on our Instagram. Thank you Emilia and Victoria Dixon for steering this valuable conversation, and to Parlour Inc: gender, equity, architecture for the opportunity to cross-share our audiences and contribute to gender equity across our fields. #APlaceForPeople #GenderEquity #Architecture #ParlourInc #DevelopmentVictoria

🏆 Fitzpatrick+Partners wins 2024 AIA Best in Practice Award 🏆 While winning awards for our projects is always rewarding, last Friday night we were especially proud to receive an award that celebrates the people, ideas, and values at the core of our studio. The 'AIA Best in Practice Award' celebrates practices that are dedicated to building supportive and inclusive workplaces while fostering positive work cultures within architecture. This year's theme, 'Sustainability in Practice' gave us the opportunity to highlight the steps we're taking to create meaningful change not just in our studio but within the wider industry. Commending our commitment to knowledge sharing and advocacy, the AIA jury noted: "Fitzpatrick + Partners is a strong advocate for sharing their expertise and knowledge in order to support the whole industry to make positive change. They have shared considerable intellectual property that many practices would keep for their own competitive advantage. The entire industry can utilise their in-house developed embodied carbon calculator, can use their sustainability action and reconciliation action plans as templates for their own policies, and are free to reference their sustainable materials guide. This generosity is deliberate and part of their industry-wide advocacy for change. (They are) demonstrating the future of a sustainable industry, through sharing experiences and expertise for the greater good of our built environment." A heartfelt thank you to our incredible team who make work worthwhile and for driving these initiatives forward and to the Australian Institute of Architects & Bespoke Careers for this recognition. We have a number of new Equity in Practice profiles on the website by practices who have chosen to take the B Corp path. i2C Architects pursued B Corp certification after 25 years in practice to help guide the development of policies and procedures aligned with their existing values and commitment to people, community and purposeful architecture. Loren Willis offers advice on the rigorous certification process and shares the benefits of making meaningful connections with the wider B Corp community. “Our practice has grown from knowledge sharing beyond our own four walls. We wanted to be part of a wider community, to connect and engage with other businesses outside the architecture industry to broaden our perspective. B Corp is a global movement, not just a certification. It isn’t a tick box or a piece of paper to hang on the wall. It’s a challenge. We have to continually evaluate what we do and why we do it, through a lens of positivity.” Slide for images and more quotes, but also read the full article – https://lnkd.in/gehspgZ9 #equityinpractice #bcorp #bcorporation #socialresponsibility #environmentalresponsibility #meaningfulrelationships

We have a new guest host starting over on Instagram today. Welcome to Emilia Firus and Development Victoria! Emilia writes: “My name is Emilia – I work with Development Victoria in the Civic Infrastructure group. This week, I’ll share my journey working as an Architect in private practice to project management in the public sector, as well as the outcomes Development Victoria has achieved in the gender equity space. My first experience with Development Victoria was as an architectural graduate at Cox Architecture working on the State Basketball Centre in 2021-22, where I was ensconced in the weeds of contractor-led design development and construction documentation. Late last year I was fortunate to attend the test basketball match on the completed courts. It was Head Contractor ADCO Constructions vs. Development Victoria. I can’t remember who won, but it was after this match that my curiosity was piqued. I wanted to know what happens in the room where these buildings are brought to life through commitments to government policies and a desire to make our communities a better place to live.” Follow Parlour Instagram this week to learn more – https://lnkd.in/gZw4pJb
