On National Ag Day, we thought we’d challenge what a farmer is. Farmers manage multi-million dollar businesses and investments and the stereotype is that they are Blue Collar workers. Many probably prefer that title rather than being a ‘Shiny bottom white collar’ type. For farmers to balance labour shortages, increase in input costs, productivity and growing compliance/ consumer pressures, Agtech is a way to ‘Keep farming’ and collect data and activities to report on. FINALLY we can talk about our schools dashboards for connecting Agtech to the classroom. Today at Charles Sturt University Charles Sturt - AgriPark Global Digital Farm they launched the Schools dashboards that allows every Ag student particularly in NSW, but also in other states to access real time data from an actual working farm and research station. This is a game changer for learning and creating a dynamic curriculum that allows real world scenarios and observations to play out. Our small part in this is using the Pairtree Intelligence platform to build custom pages that are easy for teachers and students to gain insights from a mountain of information. We currently have Optiweigh AgriWebb Cibo Labs Pty Ltd and @hussat data being made available for the teachers and students. This is a great step into a bright future and better connecting the paddock to the classroom.

It’s taken me a while to best sum up the opportunity of AI for Australian Ag. Amidst the hype, I see that real ‘Decision AI’ is aways away for replacing agronomists and advisers.
