A few weeks ago, Monash SEED were delighted to hold our first Sustainability Innovation Challenge (SIC) in partnership with Enactus Melbourne. The program was aimed at connecting students with the resources and people who could guide them in the journey of designing a social enterprise centred around a Sustainable Development Goal. Participants not only upskilled their entrepreneurial skills through modules provided by Monash Generator, but also received workshops and mentoring from professionals in the social impact and start-up space. 💡🌳 We would like to extend our thanks to all the people who made this program possible.  🌟 Thank you to our prize sponsor Bunnings, for empowering the next generation of budding social entrepreneurs, providing them with the opportunity to develop their skills and make a positive impact. 🚀 Thank you to our inspiring and engaging workshop facilitators for hosting such engaging workshops and sharing valuable knowledge: 🌱 👋 Nathan Lee Lee – Account and Partnerships Executive at HEX, and Co-founder of Stint 🌱 Sam Rye– Senior Research Officer at Monash University Living Labs Infrastructure 🌱 Stephen Mason – CEO at Awards Victoria Limited 💫 A big thank you to our enthusiastic and insightful mentors, for sharing their time to review and providing words of wisdom to participants: 🌱 Andrew Loh – Angel Network Manager at Ecotone Ventures 🌱 Edison Trinh – Management Consultant at KPMG Australia 🌱 Stephen Mason, who graciously mentored teams in addition to facilitating a workshop ⚖️ We are also extremely grateful to our wonderful judges, who imparted their wisdom and invaluable feedback to the SIC teams. This job throws some very fun things my way .... On Sunday I got to be a judge for the Monash University Sustainability Innovation Challenge run by a student group called Monash SEED. These young people incorporated design thinking with sustainability and tackled some of our biggest problems relating to the Sustainable Development Goals. I was very impressed! 💡 We can't solve our problems with the same kind of thinking that created them. Well done to all the teams for going outside the box, taking some risks, and doing it all in a very short timeframe! #sustainability #sustainabledevelopmentgoals #youtharethefuture #sustainabilityhackathon Sakshi Thakur OAM Georgia Welch

B.Arts (Philosophy) and B.Comm (Sustainability) Student at Monash University

Over the past month, I had the pleasure of leading Monash SEED’s first-ever Climate & Sustainability (C&S) Careers Evening, an initiative aimed at introducing students to the breadth of opportunities across the climate, sustainability and ESG spheres. 🌏🌱 🌟 I want to express my sincere gratitude to our incredible panellists — Terence Jeyaretnam, Simone Pianko, Danielle Koetting, & Elaine Fernandes. Thank you for your passion and inspiring leadership in this ever-evolving sphere, and for taking the time out of your day to offer your perspectives to our curious and passionate attendees. I have never seen a lecture hall with so many eager students. ☁️ I would also like to extend my warmest thank you to our networking guests — KPMG (Edison Trinh & Ronan Cotter), Australian Laboratory for Emerging Contaminants (ALEC) (Maddison McLeod), Beanstalk AgTech (Niharika Chauhan & Natalia Rebollo Sampedro), Suburban Rail Loop Authority (Lachlan Macready), Planetary Health Alliance Oceania Hub (Sam Netherclift & Urvi Thanekar), EY (Evelyn Gomm & Bec Lawson), Aurora Energy Research (John Lee, Michael V. & Paul Yip Lily G.), Amber Electric (Imanuel Rocca), & Planet Price | B Corp (Lochlan Hill). Thank you for joining us and sharing your insights with our lovely students. Your patience, enthusiasm and expertise is so greatly appreciated. 🛰️ To the students who attended C&S, your eagerness and enthusiasm have been so heart-warming to see. Thank you for your unbridled love of learning and curiosity. 🪐 The success of this initiative would not have been possible without the incredible work of the Monash SEED Committee. In particular, I would like to highlight the phenomenal work of our dedicated C&S Events team — our remarkable Events & Programs Director, Phoebe Liao, and our extraordinary officers — Ingrid Lee, Amy Nguyen, & Amy Li. Your immense contributions cannot be understated in any way. Not only did we meet each (admittedly naive) target that we had initially set, but we exceeded each one. I am so proud of each one of you. 🤍 I would also like to highlight the amazing work of our Marketing team — our phenomenal Marketing Director, Kelly Tran, and our amazing officers, Cindy Mao, James Vass, Bobby T. and Phuong (Becca) Nguyen. Thank you each for your incredible work. To our honorary marketing officer, Andrew Wang, thank you for your kindness and dedication to helping your friends. To our extraordinary Executive Committee and wider Committee, thank you for coming together to realise the success of C&S. To our lovely President, Madeline Leong, and our hardworking E&P Director, Omila Herath, thank you both for your endless support and expertise. The sincerity and kindness expressed by each member of our team has been so incredibly touching. Each one of you is a testament to the irrefutable fact that one of the most precious features of Monash SEED is the people that it attracts. 🌱

    Sustainability Student at Monash University

Last week, I had the privilege of attending the Monash SEED Climate & Sustainability Careers Evening. I would like to express my gratitude for the invaluable experience. This event provided me and other ambitious, sustainability-focused students the space to understand the complexities and opportunities within the sustainability sector. 🌱 The panel, featuring experts such as Simone Pianko, Danielle Koetting, Elaine Fernandes, and Terence Jeyaretnam, delivered great insights into the challenges we face and the pathways available for those committed to making a difference. Their discussions about their journeys in the climate space reiterated the need for dedicated individuals in this field, and I left feeling motivated and more driven in my pursuit of a career focused on sustainability. I also want to extend my appreciation to the networking guests from impactful organizations like KPMG Australia, EY, Amber Electric, and the Suburban Rail Loop Authority. Their willingness to share their experiences and knowledge is invaluable for us students who are eager to face the complexities of careers in sustainability. This event has connected me with like-minded students and professionals who are motivated to tackle the pressing environmental challenges we face. I am grateful to the Monash SEED team for facilitating this important event and for fostering connections that will shape our futures. 🌏
