The Australian Government has been urged to consider options for a dedicated First Nations internet service provider and internet domain as part of sweeping recommendations designed to address the systemic barriers Indigenous Australians face in accessing telecommunications services. The First Nations Digital Inclusion Roadmap has flagged an opportunity to trial the use of high-speed LEO satellite broadband in indigenous communities. nbn® Australia  formally announced its decision to withdraw the Cell Site Access Service, effective 13 November 2026. The discontinuation is expected to have minimal industry impact, given the lack of demand for the product since its launch in 2016. FIRST: Google and partners including Vocus, Soda and NEXTDC have this morning unveiled Australia Connect, a proposed 42,500km subsea cable network that will deliver the highest capacity ever seen on routes connecting the United States, SE Asia, and Australia. The Australia Connect initiative encompasses two new subsea systems: the Bosun subsea cable will link Darwin to Christmas Island and onward to Singapore, while the second, a new interlink cable, will connect Melbourne, Perth, and Christmas Island.
