  • As we wrap up another incredible year for our AANZ #BCorp community—a year defined by connection, growth, and shared purpose—we want to extend our heartfelt thanks. Thank you for making 2024 a year to remember and exemplifying what it means to balance #purpose and #profit. Together this year, we: - Welcomed 136 new B Corps locally and 1995 new B Corps globally, - Gathered in regional Victoria for Assembly—our first local in-person gathering since 2017, - Released our first Annual Report, - Collaborated with global peers to evolve our governance and B Corp standards, - Partnered with SXSW Sydney, - Launched two new online training programs to bolster access to B Corp education and support in our region, - Plus, so much more. As we all know, doing things differently from “how they’ve always been done” isn’t easy. Yet, our #BCorpCommunity remains steadfast and focused on the path of continuous improvement, affecting change while championing your fellow B, too. We continue to be inspired by your innovative spirit and by each B Corp's unique and diverse approach to our shared vision. Our team will be taking some time out to enjoy the festive season starting on 25 December and will return on 6 January. We hope you have a joyful holiday season full of rest and revelry with those that matter most. See you in 2025! Ps. Ready to get the ball rolling on 2025? • IN THE PRESS - We all know that AI is transforming how we live and work, with AI technology and tools being weaved increasingly throughout organisations in every industry. B Lab believes that companies like OpenAI have a responsibility and an incredible opportunity to fortify their business structures on a foundation that protects #people and the #planet. Speaking with David Swan from The Sydney Morning Herald, B Lab Global Co-Founder Andrew Kassoy commented on the risks of traditional tech structures and why leaders in this space must embrace governance models with built-in #transparency and #accountability measures. “As a society, we’re increasingly dependent on the judgement of a few influential tech leaders, which is inherently risky. The way many of these companies have been structured, they have raised capital and then gone public with share structures where there’s basically two classes of shares. One is for an entrepreneur or the couple of co-founders, who then have all the votes on everything that actually matter. If those people do the wrong thing, everybody else is along for the ride.” - B Lab Global Co-Founder Andrew Kassoy. Thank you, The Sydney Morning Herald, for highlighting this topic and the work of B Lab. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below ✍🏼 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gcQjteQp

  • We’re evolving our governance framework to nurture the thriving growth of our local community. In recent years, as the scale and influence of the #BCorpCommunity grew, it became clear that a new model of stewardship and governance was needed for our region—one that would ensure maximum #transparency, #accountability, and #inclusivity, fortifying our foundations for the future. This is how our refreshed governance structure came to take shape, or, as we like to call it, our horizons of governance — made up of four separate but interconnected groups: B LAB AANZ TEAM - A small and mighty team working across Certification and recertification, and advocating for impact-driven workplace change in our region. BOARD OF DIRECTORS - Appointed by B Lab and responsible for governing operational strategy and ensuring compliance with our legal obligations. THE B COUNCIL - Serves to formalise the voice of #BCorps in B Lab AANZ’s direction setting. Made up of representatives from Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand’s B Corp community, alongside B Lab AANZ’s CEO and board, its purpose is to engage with the community of B Corps and grow the impact of the movement in the region. THE HORIZON COUNCIL - Currently in development, The Horizon Council will bring a wider perspective and moral authority to the B Council, board, B Lab, and B Corp movement. This piece of the governance puzzle will open up our organisation to more voices, perspectives and deliberation and also formalise engagement spaces — increasing the participation of, and accountability to, the movement it seeks to build and sustain. The Horizon Council will be open to all B Corps, partners, and stakeholders. 📲Want to know more? • “There is an increasingly clear business case [for accountability]. You get more loyal customers, more engaged employees, it can enhance your brand. But somewhere in the journey to choosing to become a #BCorp there are some leaps you have to make, where there is no ROI; there is no reason why—and that’s where moral courage comes in.” A few weeks ago at SXSW Sydney, we proudly launched our inaugural Soapbox Sessions (thanks to the help of our brand new 'B' soapbox from Certified B Corp Revival Projects!) During our coffee meet up we offered up a (literal) platform to those in the room to share insights, experiences, and opinions from within our #BCorpCommunity. B Lab Australia & Aotearoa New Zealand CEO Andrew Davies was the first to step up, speaking to his thoughts on radical transparency, the evolving purpose of business, and the moral courage it requires to make decisions that, to many, might not seem like good business sense. There are more #BCorp Soapbox Sessions to come. So keep an eye out on socials or send us a DM if you’re a B Corp with something to say! In the meantime, we’re keen to know how you see moral courage manifest in your workplace. Let us know in the comments below.

  • It’s safe to say that B Corps didn’t just show up at SXSW Sydney 2024—they took over. And if you were to ask us for our highlight, honing in on just one would be an impossible task. It was powerful and moving to experience so many B Corps gathered under one roof. Our eye-catching B Corp booth became a hub for the 20,000+ attendees who explored the Social Impact Zone. Here, with our amazing Event Partners Intrepid Travel, Clothing The Gaps, Intopia, Australian Vintage, Today and Code Like a Girl we shared what it means to be a Certified B Corporation. But this was just the beginning. From deep dives on climate action to soapbox speeches about capitalism’s inherent flaws, purpose-driven businesses took centre stage all festival long, sparking conversations that stretched way beyond the ‘B’. On the B Corp blog, join us for a trip down memory lane, revisiting our top 10 thought-provoking, wow-worthy #BCorp moments from SXSW Sydney 2024. https://lnkd.in/gee9r2PN
