One of the stand out sustainable and innovative projects we completed in 2024 is the upgrade to Boherbue Wastewater Treatment plant on behalf of Uisce Éireann Irish Water and in partnership with Cork County Council. The project has successfully modernised and improved the performance and capacity of the plant and will accommodate growth and development in the Boherbue area. More importantly, it significantly improves the quality of treated wastewater discharged into the Brogeen River—a protected conservation area and home to the freshwater pearl mussel. Under the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) framework, we used innovative technology to ensure efficient wastewater treatment and sustainable features to reduce carbon emissions: 🌿 Installation of solar technology to produce clean energy 🌿 Use of natural sludge drying reed beds for sustainable sludge management. 🌿 Reuse of existing constructed wetlands, preserving animal and plant habitats. The success is a testament to a dedicated and multidisciplinary team under the #ECI framework, who worked collaboratively together to deliver for the Boherbue community, surrounding areas and the environment. #sustainability #wastewatertreatment #EarlyContractorInvolvement #naturebasedsolutions Thanks to Darran O'Leary Andy Heekin Niall McIntyre Aidan Dolan Andrew Young for sharing our journey. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 2024 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐧!   A huge well done to our very own Sarah Tierney ACA, a Mayo ladies footballer and a key member of our Finance team, who travelled to #Kenya at the end of November as part of the Plant the Planet Games, in partnership with Self Help Africa. Sarah joined 50 inter-county GAA players, both past and present to help plant one million trees across development project areas. These trees will not only rehabilitate land and restore ecosystems but also provide critical resources like food, fodder, and fuel to households and communities. Each tree planted represents a livelihood for a family. As part of her fundraising efforts, Sarah raised an incredible €35,000 and described her journey as ‘a life-changing experience’. We are immensely proud to have supported her in this wonderful initiative. Earlier this year, we welcomed Alan Kerins, the founder of the Plant the Planet Games and a former Galway senior inter-county player, to Glanua. Alan shared his personal story and the vision behind this initiative, which he started over a decade ago. It's a campaign that reflects Glanua’s commitment to #sustainability and helping #communities. We’re proud to have supported it and can’t wait to see the positive impact these trees will have in the future. #Sustainability #Community #PlantthePlanetGames
