🎉 Some big news to start off 2025: 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 (𝐄𝐏𝐂𝐬) 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐠𝐲𝐩𝐭! 🎉 🏗️ This significant milestone in the BUILD_ME Project was celebrated at the Housing & Building National Research Center ( HBRC )'s International Conference: Green Smart Sustainable Building between Present & Future (#GSSB2024). This event marked the issuance of Egypt's first National Energy Performance Certificates (#EPCs) for buildings in the #MENAregion under the BUILD_ME project framework. 📃 On 17 December 2024, the National EPCs were presented for two pilot projects: the Badya Project (Palm Hills Developments), represented by Senior Vice President, Eng. Ahmed Atalla, and Banque Misr, represented by Dr. Nermeen Barakat, Head of Business Development and Facility Management. 🌍 The ceremony was graced by Dr. Lorena Mohr, Head of the Scientific Department at the German Embassy in Egypt, who emphasized the German government’s dedication to combating climate change and promoting energy efficiency through initiatives like BUILD_ME. The certificates were officially handed over in the presence of HBRC Chairman, Dr. Mohamed Masoud. 🌟 This achievement marks a pivotal step in advancing energy efficiency within Egypt's #builtenvironment, setting a precedent for future initiatives through Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs). We are thrilled to announce the latest features of the BUILD_ME Building Energy Performance (BEP) Tool, designed to enhance user experience and provide more comprehensive calculations for energy efficiency. 🌍🏢 🖥️ New landing page: Explore the BEP tool for with the "Test" button, create a free account with "Register," or access your project database directly with "Login." 💧 Dehumidification calculations: Now includes additional energy calculations for dehumidification from air and internal sources, considering weather data and internal humidity. ☀️ PV and ST production calculations: Enhanced inputs for capacity, angles, and weather data to calculate photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal (ST) production more accurately. 🔹 Orientation customization: Customize building orientation between 0° and 89°, where 0° indicates a façade oriented due south. 🌍 International Climate Initiative supported BUILD_ME Project at COP29 Azerbaijan: Data and standards are needed to drive action for a sustainable built environment 🌱 We're happy to share the outcomes of BUILD_ME project’s two dynamic panels that explored innovative pathways to decarbonize the built environment at COP29: 💶 On November 14th, in collaboration with host Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC) and Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC), JLL, 2150, & KOMPAS VC, we emphasized the importance of data availability in financing energy-efficient solutions. Moritz Schäfer (Guidehouse) and Dr. Maged Mahmoud (Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE)) showcased BUILD_ME’s milestones: a building typology, the BEP Tool, and an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) that empower financial institutions to assess energy-efficient buildings with ease. ⭐ On November 16th, together with host Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD) and the Lebanese Association for Energy saving & for Environment (ALMEE), Dr. Maged, and Moritz delved into the #BEPTool's holistic features, demonstrating how it connects project developers with financial institutions. We were inspired by the other region-specific tools presented, which highlighted the surge in energy efficiency standards and sustainability certifications across the #MENAregion. ✨ Our key takeaway? 🌍 Unlocking Climate Potential: NEW report on the relevance of the building sector in national strategies in Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon 🌍 The BUILD_ME Project has released a report titled “Mapping of the Building Sector in National Strategies of Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon.” This report underscores the building sector's critical role in climate change #mitigation and adaptation, highlighting its significant energy consumption and #GHGemissions, and the need for coherence around the built environment in national strategies and policies. Key findings reveal that while comprehensive national strategies exist, the building sector is often underrepresented.
