Nine Muses Festival

'Leading through change' was the title of yesterdays insightful panel to launch Spotify's new community 'Nine Muses.' I am a fan of Marilyn Zakhour and her focus on culture and hearing her liken change to the stages of grief made so much sense. She described resilience as our ability to adapt to change and as leaders it is our responsibility to shepherd the process understanding that our teams will adapt in their own way and at their own pace. A key takeaway for me was her comment to 'be the wave and not the wall' meaning be the change and don't stand still in the face of change. I also loved the idea to learn how to tell a new story about the change as I realised I have often had to do that myself to get over what she called 'post traumatic growth'. Speaking of past trauma 😅 , I also fully resonated with Iman Al-Omrani as she talked through some of her experiences working at Expo 2020 Dubai, an experience which felt like the dictionary we all needed, to learn how to adapt to change. What happens when the pace of change is just too fast? Iman mentioned that she had to set her mind, body and soul to a different pace. I know from my experience at Expo, when things are moving at such a high pace, all you can really do is stay calm and be prepared to change and flex your adaptability muscles for the unknown. The experience definitely set me up as a stronger leader and has given me the confidence to face bigger challenges (like Expo 2025 Osaka 😉 ) What I took away more than the panel itself is the clear need and appetite for more communities and conversations. Having just launched our community 'Mission Visible' last week, it was clear that Spotify had come to the same conclusion that we are in an era where despite changes & the growth in technology and AI, there is a yearning for connection. At the end of the day I believe all these communities work together and it always comes down to people with a common goal, learning & growing. Today we launched Nine Muses Festival to a full house in Dubai. Over an inspiring morning of panels, breakout circles and musical performances we discussed Leadership through Change. We heard stories and advice from incredible leaders in Tech, consulting and creative industries and we started conversations and built connections that make for the strong foundation for our community of professional women in tech and culture in Dubai. The things we learnt - Change is constant, clarity is kindness, know your values and live by them - but most importantly community, trust and humanity are everything. We’re excited about the conversations and community we’ve kicked off in Dubai - and can’t wait to see where Nine Muses takes us next. With a purpose rooted in growth, connection, and embracing change, the festival brought together a vibrant community alongside an incredible lineup of diverse speakers and interactive breakout circles. Nine Muses was founded in 2022 to celebrate Women in the Creative industries, and this week we did just that - over a morning of panels, breakout sessions and entertainment we celebrated the expertise and strength of the women in our community and their profound influence on leadership and business outcomes.
