Hypex Bio is a nitrate free emulsion explosive developed for use in civil underground and surface mining and construction rock blasting operations. Hypex Bio is an abbreviation for “Hydrogen peroxide explosive – biodegradable” and implies the use of hydrogen peroxide as a replacement for nitrate salts as primary oxidizer. By replacing nitrate based explosives with Hypex significant savings in ventilation and water treatment infrastructure may be achieved in combination with improved production cycles. Further, tremendous CO2 emission savings can be achieved by migrating to Hypex Bio. The team behind Hypex Bio believes the technology represents the first commercially available nitrate free emulsion explosive. Hypex offers a paradigm shift for the civil explosives markets and support the construction and extractive industries to fulfill the challenging but necessary environmental and sustainability targets set by the governments of the world. Significant efforts have been made to develop a stable, cost effective and reliable HPE type explosive which have led to a commercialization of the technology in the European Union through a CE certification process and multiple HPE patent applications. As a part of this commercialization, the HPE technology have been branched to the new Swedish entity Hytech. Hytech is capitalized to operate verification and implementation projects and have been organized with a experienced management board, investors and key experts to ensure the HPE commercialization success. Hytech holds laboratory, manufacturing, IP and regulatory assets making the entity ideally positioned to succeed in the commercialization of the Hypex Bio technology.

On December 5th 2024, Hypex Bio was demonstrated in a small-scale blast at the Boliden Aitik mine. The purpose was to verify safety, performance, and handling aspects within the mine's operational setting. The demonstration, excellently managed in partnership by the Hypex and Boliden on-site teams, was a success, receiving positive feedback from both sides. This demonstration represents a small but significant step on the joint testing and development roadmap that Boliden and Hypex have been navigating together. This demonstration gives confidence that sustainable explosives have future potential also for the large scale industrial mining sector. To successfully implement our new and groundbreaking Hypex technology, we must ensure a non-disruptive approach at both the application and user levels. This is critical for enabling smooth adaptation and maintaining familiarity for blasters and on-the-bench stakeholders. One of our core ambitions is to ensure that HPE technology can be used and applied in the same way as traditional AN-based emulsions. So far, this has proven to be mostly accurate, with some tuning and optimization. The blast shown in this video is a typical example, where 14 tons of HPE were charged and fired using the same pattern normally employed with ANE. The results clearly demonstrate effects such as heave, fragmentation, and pull, confirming that our goal of comparability has been achieved in this instance. #innovation #hypexbio #mining #alternative #explosives #sustainability

Stockholm, November 26, 2024 – Implenia Sweden has been awarded the contract to build a double-track train tunnel system, including service tunnels, beneath the central Vasastan district of Göteborg, Sweden. This ambitious project involves complex urban tunnelling, including extensive rock excavation and reinforcement activities in close proximity to densely populated areas. The work will involve blasting and excavating approximately 225,000 m³ of hard rock, starting in the last quarter of 2024, with completion planned for 2029. #hypexbio #implenia #tunneling #sustainableinfrastructrue #partnership

Last week, the Hypex Bio Explosives Technology team completed a large-scale surface trial series in partnership with Verdalskalk AS, Norway. The aim of the trials was to demonstrate that Hypex HPE technology can act as a direct replacement for traditional ammonium nitrate emulsion. The trials were successfully completed, proving that not only can Hypex HPE fully replace the traditional product, but it also achieved optimal results with lower powder factors (this blast used a powder factor of around 0.3). Further work to optimize the blasts is likely to result in even better energy efficiency. BREAKTHROUGH: Last Friday, the first breakthrough blast was conducted at the Implenia Högdalsdepå project. This blast is notable not only for its symbolic importance in marking the completion of the tunnel blasting for one of the tunnel sections but also because it represents the 100th blast of HPE carried out in this project. Yesterday, the formal inauguration of the Hypex Bio Explosives Technology emulsion plant took place at the Boliden Kankberg mine in Skellefteå, Sweden. MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH: Last week, the Hypex Bio team, in partnership with Franzefoss and Verdalskalk, conducted the world’s first MEMU-charged, full HPE surface blast. This historic event marks a significant milestone in our long journey of technological development, enabling the chemical and mechanical application of the nitrate- and ammonia-free Hypex bulk solution in large-diameter surface holes. Twelve months of intensive development and trials culminated in excellent results, with 50,000 tons of limestone being blasted. This achievement underscores the technological shift that Hypex HPE represents: We can, and will, supply the future of sustainable commercial explosives.
