Building a coordination hub to support the mission implementation in the Atlantic and Arctic basin

BlueMissionAA is the coordination hub that will support the implementation of the EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030 in the Atlantic & Arctic basins. It will focus on restoration of marine and coastal ecosystems and increased climate resilience. BlueMissionAA will have a structuring effect to consolidate and mobilise a wide community of relevant stakeholders and EU citizens towards the achievement of Mission objectives at basin level. It will deliver an effective governance framework aligned with policies, initiatives and actions at national, regional and EU level, build a well-coordinated monitoring framework to assess the progress of the implementation on an ongoing basis, provide a wide range catalogue of supporting services, foster an attractive innovation ecosystem for ecological restoration, and give the opportunity and empower EU citizens to engage in the preservation and restoration of oceans and waters through participative means. The consortium is comprised of 15 partners who have worked extensively in the Atlantic and Arctic basin over the years. They combine the benefits of a comprehensive geographical coverage with an evenly balanced mixture of unique capabilities, knowledge and access to relevant stakeholder and citizen networks needed to pursue the objectives of the project. BlueMissionAA is a HORIZON Coordination and Support Actions (HORIZON-CSA). This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research And Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement No 101093962.

🌊 Empowering Youth for Ocean Advocacy: #PREP4BLUE and #BlueMissionAA Workshop Sparks Environmental Innovation On November 27, 33 dedicated participants joined forces to design impactful social media campaigns tackling urgent ocean challenges. Held during Blue Mission Banos Project #MissionArena3, this workshop combined expert insights with collaborative strategy sessions, encouraging participants to explore innovative ways to integrate environmental advocacy with social justice. Teams created imaginative campaigns addressing #MissionOcean challenges such as Amsterdam’s canal pollution and marine biodiversity loss. They focused on crafting compelling messages, targeting specific audiences, and designing visually engaging content. Beyond practical advocacy tools, the workshop highlighted the importance of collaboration in tackling environmental issues. 🏔 The remote regions of the #Arctic are facing a growing challenge - #marinelitter. Next Wednesday, the #BlueMissionAA will host an important Weekly Hour with forScience Foundation, a Polish NGO dedicated to environmental research and protection. In this webinar, you'll learn about forScience's 'Sørkapp Marine Litter Cleanup' project, a two-year initiative focused on understanding and addressing the issue of stranded marine litter along the southwestern coast of Svalbard. Over 8 tons of litter were collected, providing critical data on the types, amounts, distribution and accumulation rate in this pristine Arctic environment. This gathering fostered a true spirit of collaboration, enabling participants to cross-pollinate ideas and share best practices 🤝✨. With the support of BlueMissionAA, both projects shared insights from the first 18 months, identifying ways to unite their efforts for a stronger impact 🌍. Discussions on sustainable business models and basin-level strategies highlighted our commitment to long-term, scalable solutions 🌐. All participants are now excited for the next phase!
