We are proud to announce a Strategic Agreement with the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) to drive innovation in Carbon Capture and Mineral Storage (CCMS) technology. This partnership reinforces our shared commitment to advancing sustainable solutions for decarbonization and the global energy transition. "Our core is research and innovation, and this partnership with CNR will further support meaningful progress for climate action and recovery." As our CEO, Edda Aradottir, stated. This collaboration will focus on advancing CCMS and CCUS technologies, integrating mineral carbon capture with geothermal energy, and decarbonizing industries in the "hard-to-abate" sector. It also emphasizes knowledge sharing, capacity building, and fostering opportunities for the next generation of researchers. By combining expertise and resources, we aim to make a meaningful contribution to global climate efforts. We’re proud to announce a new partnership with CarbonQuest, a leading provider of carbon capture technology. Together, we’ve signed a Memorandum of Understanding to accelerate the deployment of distributed carbon capture and storage (DCCS) solutions for “hard-to-abate” facilities in North America. 🌍 By combining CarbonQuest’s innovative modular capture technology with Carbfix’s proven CO2 mineralization expertise—which turns CO2 into stone underground within two years—we’re bringing cost-effective, permanent solutions to industrial emitters in the U.S. and Canada. What this partnership means: ➡️ Greater access to DCCS for small- and medium-scale emitters ➡️ Onsite solutions for industries near mineralization-ready sites ➡️ Scalable, efficient, and sustainable CO2 mineralization As our CEO, Edda Aradottir, shares: "This collaboration unlocks new opportunities for carbon mineralization across North America, helping us turn climate ambitions into action." This is a huge step forward in making CCS accessible and impactful, paving the way for a sustainable, low-carbon future! #CarbonCapture #Mineralization #Partnership #ClimateAction #Innovation #Carbfix #Carbonquest

We are excited to announce a collaboration between #Carbfix and Nuada, delivering a comprehensive carbon capture and mineralization solution to drive industrial decarbonization forward! 💎 Carbfix and Nuada are proud to announce a groundbreaking partnership to redefine carbon capture and storage (CCS) for industries that need solutions at speed and scale. Combining Nuada’s state-of-the-art carbon capture technology with Carbfix’s proven mineralization process, this collaboration delivers the first truly integrated CCS solution—from capture to permanent storage. This partnership targets emissions from some of the hardest-to-decarbonize sectors, including cement, lime, steel, waste-to-energy, and bio-energy. Nuada’s advanced capture technology achieves highly efficient CO₂ removal while overcoming cost, complexity, and energy challenges that have long hindered traditional methods. Carbfix complements this with a transformative storage solution, turning CO₂ into stone underground in less than two years—a secure, scalable, and permanent approach. “Together with Nuada, we are creating a pathway for industrial emitters to take meaningful climate action. By uniting our technologies, we can deliver solutions that meet the urgency of the climate crisis,” says Edda Aradottir, CEO of Carbfix. This collaboration marks a critical step toward decarbonizing heavy industries and accelerating progress on global climate goals. Highlighting Christopher Consoli’s insightful keynote, featured in the Carbfix Mineralization Summit 2024 playlist on YouTube. 🎥 As Principal Consultant at the Global CCS Institute, Consoli delivered a compelling presentation, concluding with key lessons for the CCS community: 1️⃣ Knowledge is power -Transparency is critical: sharing data, research, and results fosters collective progress. -Clear communication about “where” and “how much” CO₂ can be stored is essential - over-promising is not an option. 2️⃣ Building and maintaining trust -Achieving a social license to operate demands continuous community and regulatory engagement. -Monitoring and assurance are indispensable for building long-term trust. 3️⃣ Consistency matters -Inconsistent terminology (e.g., carbon mineralisation, mineral carbonation, CO₂ mineralisation, basalt storage) can confuse even the informed. Clear, consistent language is crucial. -Focus on overwhelming evidence of safety and success, rather than unlikely, low-impact scenarios - science is robust, even if not perfect. This keynote offers invaluable insights into advancing CCS safely and responsibly, fostering trust, and maintaining clarity in communication. This recent article written by Ruth Kamnitzer for Mongabay shines a light on the growing role of carbon mineralisation as a safe and permanent solution for CO₂ mineralisastion. At Carbfix, we’re proud to have pioneered this technology, which mimics nature by turning CO₂ into solid rock within just two years. Since 2012, we’ve mineralized over 100,000 metric tons of CO₂ here in Iceland, and we’re scaling up. Projects like the upcoming Coda terminal will enable the storage of 3 million metric tons of CO₂ annually by 2032, demonstrating the potential of this technology to address hard-to-abate emissions. Carbon mineralization is gaining traction globally, but scaling it requires investment, regulatory support, and collaboration. As this article highlights, the stakes are high — but the solutions are within reach. 🌋 Nature at Work 🌋 Did you know that rocks form the Earth's largest carbon reservoir, storing over 99% of the planet's carbon for thousands to millions of years? At Carbfix, we're leveraging this natural process by injecting CO2 into similar basaltic rocks at our injection site, where it transforms into stone deep underground. Meanwhile, over at the Reykjanes peninsula, a volcanic eruption is showcasing the raw power of nature. This basaltic lava not only mesmerizes with its fiery display but also holds immense carbon storage potential—up to ten times the CO2 emissions of the eruption itself! It's a reminder of the role rocks play in the Earth's carbon cycle and their ability to contribute to long-term climate solutions. The Reykjanes eruption is a striking example of the planet's energy and the opportunities we have to work alongside nature to restore balance.
