The Grimshaw Foundation is a finalist in the TET (ThorntonEducationTrust) Inspire Future Generations Awards 2024, an awards programme that recognises organisations and individuals that have been working with children and young people, to help them engage in and advocate for a better built environment.   Over the past two years the Foundation has been leading on programmes and initiatives that, through making and creating, elevate the role of creativity as an essential skill for the future, and introduce young people from different backgrounds to the creative industries and careers within architecture and design.    The two projects recognised as finalists are: → Performance Architecture Design (PAD): Youth Long Term Programme and Children Long Term Programme Award led by Grimshaw Foundation and the Royal Albert Hall with the support of Urban Learners. → Architecture for Change: Climate Change Award, led by Grimshaw Foundation, supported by Urban Learners.   Since 2021 the Foundation has worked with over 500 young people and 15 schools. Its most recent partnership, with the Royal Albert Hall, was behind the successful PAD programme which enabled 160 young people to work with the Royal Albert Hall Associate Artists Rhael 'LionHeart' Cape Hon FRIBA, Anna Lapwood, Jess Gillam and Corey Baker through a series of workshops and a final bid build — installing eight performance spaces at the Hall, designed by the students.   A huge congratulations to all the finalists and thank you TET (ThorntonEducationTrust) for continuing to advocate for professional and practitioner action in programmes that educate, engage and inspire the next generation. #ifgawards #ifgawards2024 #art #architecture #design #education #inspirefuturegenerations

Grimshaw is pleased that Katarzyna Jurkiewicz, a principal in the Sydney studio, has been appointed to the Parramatta Light Rail 2 Design Review Panel. Kat has been important to Grimshaw’s infrastructure, metro and light rail projects over her 18 year career with the practice. She led the Sydney South East & CBD Light Rail project, completed in 2021 and then led and developed the Auckland Light Rail Proposal between 2022 and 2024. She also recently collaborated with Transport for NSW to create the Light Rail Design Guidelines published earlier this year. We look forward to Kat’s expertise contributing to the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 project, bringing great public transportation outcomes to greater Sydney. #sydneyinfrastructure #sydneylightrail #sydneyarchitecture #parramattalightrail

Supporting the development of sustainable infrastructure to help accelerate the transition, in our cities, to low-carbon transport solutions, Grimshaw is working with GIGATONS to roll out, with its key partners, EV charging infrastructure. The strategic partnership will see Grimshaw develop a suite of designs that can be integrated across different city locations and transport systems — passenger vehicles, taxis, buses, heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), marine, and aviation. 'This collaboration with GIGATONS builds on our legacy — pioneering design that brings forward research and technology and advocates for buildings and places that have real impact. We will have a unique opportunity to accelerate the change that is needed across our cities in the adoption of EV but also ensure its integration is contextualised, efficient, scalable and through ingenuity brings beauty.' — Neill McClements. The revolution in clean technology and advanced manufacturing demands a new generation of skilled, tech-savvy makers fluent in the latest innovations. We are helping the University of Maine do just that with the Green Energy & Materials (GEM) Factory of the Future. Designed by Grimshaw in partnership with SMRT Architects & Engineers and Thornton Tomasetti, GEM Factory is a state-of-the-art research facility focused on revolutionizing production through AI-driven, large-scale bio-based additive manufacturing. Once complete, the GEM Factory will provide students with opportunities to collaborate with industry leaders and experts, foster the development of manufacturing processes, and prepare them to lead in this evolving field. The Waterloo Station Masterplan has been Highly Commended at the NLA New London Awards 2024! Led by London Borough of Lambeth and Networkrail, this social value-driven masterplan envisions a people-focused transformation of Waterloo Station and the South Bank, creating a world-class multimodal transport and civic hub. Waterloo is one of the busiest transport hubs in the UK, drawing over 100 million visitors annually and with a growing population of residents and workers. The masterplan sets the conditions for a cohesive and legible network of streets, spaces, transport and development across this area of south London, which will not only enhance connectivity, but also create an active, sustainable, inclusive and healthy destination. Tomorrow, Matthew Utley, Principal at Grimshaw, will join the 2A Arch Talk Series as part of the 2A Continental Architecture Awards 2024, hosted by 2A Magazine and Ahmad Zohadi.   As part of the 'Visionary Architects and Artists' session, Matthew will share the story behind Terra — The Sustainability Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai: a net zero energy and water building that realises the potential for places to be self-sustaining and regenerative. Combining passive design principles and integrating technology inspired by the natural world, the Pavilion includes 18 Energy Trees and a 135-metre wide canopy with more than 8,000 m2 solar panels. Today the project is the permanent home for a sustainability museum.
