NCC Ltd is a consultancy focusing on the conservation of nature and biodiversity. It was founded in 2010 by a group of experienced scientists specialized in nature conservation. NCC specializes in ecological surveys, biodiversity monitoring, appropriate assessment, bird surveys in wind farms, utilizing its team of experts and state of the art equipment. The consultancy is active in a variety of fields related to the study and protection of natural environment, extending from the implementation of conservation actions for the improvement of protected species state within or outside Natura2000 sites in the framework of projects and the implementation of biodiversity monitoring projects in protected areas, to the development of Appropriate Assessments for the environmental licensing of small and major infrastructure, such as the Trans Adriatic Gas Pipeline, and the preparation of management plans for protected areas. NCC executives have coordinated major projects for the protection and enhancement of biodiversity in Greece, including the "Reassessment of 69 important areas for their designation as Special Protection Areas of the Natura2000 network", the "Determination of compatible activities in relation to the trigger bird species of Special Protection Areas", as well as monitoring and assessment of the conservation status of invertebrate species of EU interest in Greece. We have more than 20 years of experience in preparation of nature conservation project proposals for priority species and Natura2000 sites. So far we have prepared more than 30 LIFE project proposals and implemented-coordinated more than 12.

Our team successfully captured amazing footage of #Sperm_Whales in the area! 🐋 Our scientific team and renowned experts recorded 20-30 individuals of Sperm Whales in their natural environment. These valuable observations enhance our understanding of these majestic marine mammals. I am very proud that L’Oreal Hellas announced yesterday in a special press event held in The Museum of Cycladic Art , the launch of the first Urban Micro-Forest project (“A. Miyawaki” concept) in Athens, Kypseli (Alepotrypa), in collaboration with the Municipality of Athens and a team of biodiversity and planting experts, and excited to be part of the project leading team. A “Miyawaki” Urban Micro-Forest is a dense, fast-growing forest created in a city area, using exclusively native plant species, to preserve and enhance local biodiversity, and combat climate crisis. Developed by Dr. Akira Miyawaki, these Micro-Forests imitate the growing process of conventional forests from scratch but without any human intervention. They grow 10 times faster, preserve 100 times more biodiversity and absorb 40 times more CO2. The experts study estimates an absorption of 3.300 kg CO2/year on the 10th year of life of the Micro-Forest. Other benefits include the adjustment of the microclimate of the area with up to 6°C decrease in local temperature and reduction of the “Urban Heat Island” Effect, improving air quality, reducing the city noise, and absorbing up to 150 liters of rainwater/m2, hence preventing floods. Plus, making the city greener and more beautiful !! A total of 4.850 plants, including trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants with a density of up to 6 plants/m2, will be planted in the next months in a 1.130m2 common space with the aim of reaching 10.000 plants in 10 years, in a forest having the development characteristics of a 20 to 30-year old conventional forest. It is a truly innovative and pioneering project for Greece, with scalability potential in public and private urban spaces including roofs, that can transform our city into a greener one, with richer biodiversity, and therefore improve the Citizens’ everyday lives.
