As Paralegals on Demand reaches its third year on November 22nd (which is this Friday!), I can’t help but look back and feel a mix of gratitude, disbelief, and pride. When I started this journey, I had no idea what I was getting into. I was a career paralegal, not an entrepreneur. The idea of building a business was so far outside my comfort zone, and there were days when I honestly didn’t think I could do it.
It all began with “KD on Demand” and we put all into marketing, hoping to find that first client. And then… crickets. For six months, we waited. It was humbling, but I knew in my heart that this was worth the struggle. I kept pushing forward, even when no one seemed to be listening.
When that first client finally came, I was over the moon. But in my eagerness, I overcomplicated things: too many check-ins, procedures, and extra steps that ended up overwhelming the client. It was a hard lesson that taught me the value of simplicity, listening and focus.
Then, a few small successes gave me the courage to make a big change. I rebranded to Paralegals On Demand; a new name, a clearer message, and a fresh start. From there, we grew slowly, hiring our first team members and figuring out our way forward, one step at a time.
In all of that, before the launch, listening to crickets, learning lessons, I remember one late night in October 2022, writing an email to David, where I was processing my fears about the business model. I wrote:
"David – I’m wondering if this business model will actually work. I keep questioning if firms will see it as too unconventional, too different. We’re breaking new ground, and it’s hard to know if we’re doing the right thing. I am not sure and don’t think it will be accepted – what if I am not good enough – what if I fail." That night captured so much of the fear and uncertainty I felt in those early days. There was no roadmap, only the values I held close and the determination to make this work.
Soon stepping into our third year, I can honestly say I’m still learning every day, growing every day and taking lots of lessons daily. POD is still in its infancy, and we’re fighting hard to convince new clients that our services can help them grow, and help them do it cost-effectively. We have big plans for POD’s future, and I’m excited to see where we can go from here.
To everyone who has supported us, believed in us, and been part of this journey *Thank you*. And to the POD team, thank you for joining in this adventure. Here’s to resilience, growth, and staying true to the values that brought us here. The best is yet to come!
