CPD Announcement! Next Tuesday, June 4, speakers Beth Beattie, Cindy Blancher, and Adam Brooks will discuss the misconceptions surrounding mental health in “Thanks, But No Thanks for Your Advice: Busting Mental Health Myths” . For the most part, people are well intentioned in trying to help others who are struggling with a mental health issue whether it be a mood disorder, addiction, ADHD and many more. But this well intentioned “advice” often contains misinformation and may cause the person with the mental health condition to feel worse than if the person had not tried to be helpful. This panel will show that there is no one size fits all approach to someone with a mental condition. Everyone experiences things differently and what might work for one person, may not work for another. The panelists will present different advice they’ve been given, reflect on how it’s been problematic and suggest some alternatives. In so doing, they will bust apart many of the myths surrounding mental health. This CPD will be held virtually by Zoom from 7:00-8:15 PM. Register online at https://opaonline.ca/.

FLSP Licence Update: A virtual meeting was held today on FLSP Licence and its impact on insurance premium. It was attended by Roy Bornmann, Policy Counsel, LSO, Matthew Wylie, Policy Counsel, Michelle Lomazzo, Paralegal Bencher, Danish Yusuf, Zen Insurance and myself. The FLSP program for P1 licensees will be delivered by Fanshawe College starting Jan 2025. It is a one semester online program, with a 40 hrs field placement. Paralegals who graduate from this program will earn a certificate and then register/apply to LSO for permission to provide services as FLSP. I have made the submissions that since the FLSP has a narrow scope of practice and will be within the purview of the P1 licence, the insurance premium should remain intact with no increase for those who may provide FLSP services. We look forward to coordinate with other insurer providers also.
