Healthy Brains, Healthy Lives (HBHL) is a high profile, high priority multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral initiative located at McGill University made possible with support from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF), Quebec’s Ministère de l'Économie et de l'Innovation (MEI), and the Fonds de recherche du Quebec (FRQS, FRQSC and FRQNT). HBHL builds on McGill’s scientific excellence and global leadership in areas of neuroscience that hold the greatest promise for delivering implementable, clinically effective outcomes in brain and mental health. It aims to transform many brain disorders from terminal or life-long afflictions to treatable, even curable, conditions.

Selon l'Institut de la statistique du Québec, les ados ont démontré une hausse de troubles mentaux depuis 2010. On parle ici d'éco-anxiété, d'une chute de l'estime de soi, de plus de temps devant un écran et de dépression, tous des maux qui affectent particulièrement les jeunes filles. De plus, les troubles anxieux, qui touchaient 9 % des jeunes (tous genre confondus) en 2010-2011, en atteignent maintenant 20 % en 2022-2023. Mais qu'en fait-on de ces statistiques ? Il y a certainement de quoi s'inquiéter, mais il ne faut pas toutefois y voir une hausse absolue. « C’est possible qu’on fasse du meilleur repérage et, donc, qu’on capture une plus grande proportion de la population qui vivait une détresse qu’autrefois », rapporte Tina C. Montreuil, professeure agrégée à McGill University et chercheuse soutenue par HBHL. 🧠 La solution ?
