We’re starting the process of modernizing Alberta’s coal policy. The Alberta Coal Industry Modernization Initiative will help develop legislation to guide responsible coal mining practices and increase coal royalties for Albertans. The updated policy will ensure Alberta’s headwaters are protected from mining contaminants, mountain-top removal mining will never be allowed and no new open pit mines will be approved for the Eastern Slopes. This will also allow for new economic opportunities in metallurgical coal exploration and development which could result in increased investment in our province and jobs for Albertans.
